It depends on your engine (mods) and tune. It should engage where it benefits performance most. Get some dyno time.

VTEC engagement points should have been set by a good tuner to smooth out the power curve. Faster ETs is dependent on many other factors such as traction, transmission gearing, and how good the driver is. Power is nothing if the car and/or driver fails to harness it.

But it doesn't benefit anything. If your Vtec is at 5300rpm then there is no need to worry cruising at 4500rpm. I myself have a b16 tranny cruising at 4500rpm going 80mph. I however just choose to cross off low load vtec engagement on NepTune. So even if I hit 5500rpm at light loads Vtec does not activate.

I myself had a Vtec controller when I first bought my car. After taking it out, my car ran alot smoother.

Why do you want to set vtec at 4500rpm? It's not like your going to feel any difference being in vtec on the freeway at low load anyways. I don't know if it is featured on Crome or Crome pro. I just know NepTune features it.

Again to indicate the best vtec engagement, you need to strap it to a dyno.

I can almost guarantee that amy movement of the VTEC engagement higher or lower than the optimal setting(set by the tuner) would yield slower ETs.
