My 96 civic ex coupe accelerator cable has freyed loose strands.

Are there any tips, tricks or traps that I should know about before getting started replacing the accelerator cable? Good place to buy one? Thanks

Which engine?

Pretty easy to do, the only PITA is working under the dash to get at it. Don't make it too loose or too tight.

Buy a new one from http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/ they sell them for cheap.
Look under 'Pedal' and it's listed as a 'Wire, Throttle'.

Yes there's a plastic piece (yellowish)that sort of locks the pedal side end of the accelerator cable in place that sometimes breaks when you remove it-it pushes on and pulls off, I could not get the pic to show from the link to tell you also the cable is held on at the firewall (engine compartment-side) all you do is twist to loosen the plastic "plug" to remove the cable should take you a total of about 10 minutes or so to do

Thank you very much gentlemen.

What a great resource Majestic Honda website and your expert guidance to the part I need.

"...twist loosen the plug", check
About that yellow plastic piece; if it breaks, am I hosed? How do I - don't do that, lol.

Looks like I'll order up one of these: 17910-S01-A02 008 001 WIRE, THROTTLE 18.00 12.60.

I wonder if any of these items below are necessary.

17921-SA4-730 009 001 SEAL, THROTTLE CABLE 4.88 3.42
17931-SR3-A01 011 001 CLAMP, THROTTLE WIRE 15.00 10.50
17932-S04-A00 013 001 CLAMP, THROTTLE WIRE 13.13 9.19

Best Regards
Mark
