Icon2 Check engine light problem

Not really sure where to post things on these forums and I'm sort of getting discouraged by the responses I'm getting.

My problem is the check engine light on my 2002 honda civic si won't go away. I'm not sure what the problem is but it's stopping me from being able to pass smog. Any constructive advice would help.

I thought it might be because my intake isn't carb legal but apparently that has nothing to do with it?

A lot of people say it's the 02 censor... which is an expensive replacement and may need another replacement in say... another 50thousand to 100thousand miles. Is there any way to replace it myself or to get around the smog issue?

I don't understand people??? You have a check engine light and you post on the internet wondering what it could be... How are we suppose to know if you don't get it scanned and with out a reading?

You're getting discouraged because your question isn't very detailed and you are expecting answer with out giving any details!

Here's a link to use the paper clip method and code list so you can figure out why your light is on. I did this in my 04 ep3 and it worked for me.

Paper clip method:

Go to pepboys or autozone or something and ask them to scan it. Once you have the code(s), post'em up and some of us here will most likey offer you most feasible way to solve the issue. It could be coming from several+ areas... Oh, did you check if your gas tank cap is closed properly? Or the seal isn't worn out? My wife does that all the time on her lexus...

Well I had got it scanned a while ago and when my friend looked up the code he said I might have to take it to honda cause the scanner wasn't picking up anything.

I guess the problem was since I had been riding around on crappy shocks for a while the electrical components of the car got shaken up. One of the fuses in the fuse box was damaged and not touching. It kept telling the scanner different things because of that. Replaced it and everything good now.

And Dave, some people don't have the knowhow to scan their cars... that's why they come to support forms. Thanks for all the help guys! Electrical problems are frustrating!

Unfortunately not everyone comes together for the sake of sharing their love for Hondas and comes with a positive friendly attitude. Thats life for a lot of people. I have Hondas on my *** and then I have some honk and give a head nod. Some people get it some don't. You made your point. Word!

Also for the comment above... bro really you think we are hating? You have been here for 5 years but barely participate! Before passing a comment on how people hate and such... look at all the question that get asked and tell me that you haven't seen it a million times! We aren't here to repeat what has been said a thousands times, we are here to help if you don't understand! Its like me asking you to find the treasure with no map!

You think we hate... but you got it all wrong! Most of us really know each other very well. We are a thigh community but you wouldn't know that because you barely participate! So before coming in here and calling some of us haters how about you get to know us and participate in this forum then maybe I'll consider what you have to say...
