Default Another question about engine noise

Hi Everyone, I am not new to this forum I just lost my password and no longer have the E-Mail address to recover it, Sux for me.
Ok now that thats done, I have an 01 civic ex, Just got the car and as i was driving it home i started to notice a whine from the engine, It does go faster as i rev the engine, The person i got it from told me that the timming belt was changed.
Now it has 104500 on it, I disconnected the P/S pump and it reduced that noise, but there is still a whine.. It sounds like that whine you sometimes get from a bad ground on your sterreo...
Any ideas B4 I pull the timming belt off?

What do you mean by "I disconnected the P/S pump" ?? Did you remove the belt? Does the noise change (louder, quieter, etc) when you turn the steering wheel?

Was the timing belt tensioner replaced also? If so, with what brand? OEM or aftermarket?

Have you ruled out the alternator as the culprit?

It should be relatively easy to figure out where it's coming from and fix the problem.

Good luck with it.

Great tool. I've used mine on many occasions. And they're inexpensive.

There are a variety of manufacturers, styles, and prices. That's just an example.

Sorry i havent been back on for a few days, What i did was pull the belt off the P/S pump and the whine was reduced a lot, so i did the next step and pulled the other belt for the AC and the ALT and it stopped totally.
So i replaced the PS pump and well, money is tight and i cant and i dont wanna just replace the ALT or the AC comp because of a whine.
Best news is that it wasnt the timming belt tensioner...

I am gonna wait till it dont work to replace it.
Thank you Guys for the replys

Make sure you thoroughly flush/bleed the power steering system. Use this link from the FAQ's, if you need to. (post #13)
Power Steering Fluid Replacement: Link
I wouldn't wait for something to completely fail before replacing it, especially the alternator. You can live without A/C.

Connect the alternator back up. (yes, you can do this separately, by installing a belt for cars that didn't come with A/C) Check for the whining noise. If it's back, you'd know the alternator is the culprit. It's likely just a bad bearing, which can be replaced. (the whole alternator can be overhauled)

If that's not it, put the A/C belt back on. If it's the A/C, it's probably the clutch components, which can also be replaced without having to buy a whole new compressor.

Good luck with it.

Yes i ran the car with no Ps belt, the whine was still there, i reconnected the PS belt and the whine got louder, so i figured i would do the PS pump, if the pump wass going bad i didnt want it to pump metal shaveings into my rack... So when i disconected both belts there was NO noise at all and thats how i came to the conclusion that it was either the atl or the ac......
I ran 3 bottles of PS fluid threw the system to flush it....
