those with h23 vtecs please read...
I was thinking about doing the swap til I started doing the math. I know r/s ratio isn't everything, but I don't want an engine I have to rebuild every 50,000mi.
My questions are:
1. How long have you had this converion?
2. Any problems?
3. Did you use forged pistons and iron sleaves to cobat the wall loads?
4. What were the hp/ tq gains?
5. Where did you get the parts for the conversion?
Thanks for any insite.

I had this conversion since 98' no problems at all, it's my daily driven car to and from track. bone except when I switched to crower rods and type S slugs.
dyno results where 190 hp and 161 tq at the wheels corrected I had the h22 and got my self a crank and rods from an accord at the junk yard for fifty dollars(best 50 dls I've spent for hp). currently I will be resleeving block to 90mm and port and polish head, ext hone the intake manifold along with ferrea ss valves bronze guides, Jun springs,ti-retainers along with bumpsticks. also will be running a vacuum pump, electric pump and water injection. My goal is 240 hp at the wheels.

So you have an Accord crank and rods in your H22? Which Accord parts did you use and what year is your H22? And is was just has simple as switching the H22A internals with the Accord ones? What about main bearing and will that Accord crank clear the oil jets on the H22? Sorry about all the questions it just i've never heard of this being done with Accord parts.
Thanks

My questions are:
1. How long have you had this converion? Almost 5 years, put about 80,000 miles on it.
2. Any problems? NONE
3. Did you use forged pistons and iron sleaves to cobat the wall loads?
No, used stock Honda pistons.
4. What were the hp/ tq gains?
I had like 181 WHP 150 TQ
5. Where did you get the parts for the conversion?
Not hard.
BTW, I took it to 8,000 RPM like every day day for 4-5 years.
So that tells you, and is a good lesson...that R/S ratio is totally blown out of proportion and not as important as alot of people think.

I used the accord's crank and rods(same as H23). My engine yr. is a 93'. the swap is as simple as changing parts. the main and rods are the same specs as h23/h22. oil jets will have to be modified in order to clear counter weights no big deal you'll see when you do it.
Since your H22A is a 93 and mine is a 98, Do you think there would be any difference in the setup. Cause i know that the H22A and the H22A4 cranks have different part numbers which would tell me they are different.

Accord 90-97 only have the same main and rod journals sizes
Accord 98-02 main journal are bigger rod journal are the same size as 90-97
you can buy the 98-02 crank new for under $300 but you will have to reground to 90-97 specs. you can also get a short block 90-97 for about 100-200 depending on your local junkyard. also 97-01 prelude crank and rod journals are the same specs as 93-96 prelude.

Hmmm, this upgrade sounds very interesting! Damn, i had two 90-97 mint blocks (with all internals) and sold them both!

WOW, good info. Thanks. The places around here will only sell me a complete h22. I imagine it's not worth getting the parts new. So , where can I get the head by its self???
So, i have a H22A4 motor, and if I used a H23 crank and rods or Accord crank and rods if would work without having to reground the crank? plus the rework of the oil jets.
Just read the whole post and few other ones on the same subject. Well I heard of putting the H23/F22 Crankshaft and Rods into a H22 and that would make it into a H23 Vtec. But my question is, what exactly changes?? The Compression or the stroke or what ...sorry a little clueless to this.
WOW! Back from the dead.
The stroke changes. From what I understand tho, the f22 crank has smaller journals so it will have to be modified. What the advatage is to using an f22 crank is I still don`t know. Talk to 2point6. I believe hes used both cranks for a stroker vtec.

I see that the F22 and H23, Accord 90-97 and Prelude S, Si 92-96, can be used in an H22 block 93-97. Cause in 97 they changed the Mains in the H22A in 98 to 55mm( don't know the size pre to that). And if you have a H22A 98+ you have to use the 98+ Accord crank cause the mains are the same size as the 98+ H22A. I think its just a cheaper way to get that extra .1 out of the motor.
Also i just found that the 90-97 Accord and Prelude S, SI 92-96 used 2 different cranks
13310-P0A-000
13310-PT3-315.
I don't know if there is a difference I would think you could use one or the other but these will only work in a 93-97 H22. In thoery.
Anyone have anyother ideas?
