After the terrible luck i've had with the stupid in tank pump, i've decided to go with the Walbro pump under the body, it's a diaphram type pump and is very much like the old AC pumps that were used with SU's for decades. the main problem with the setup is the fuel outlet is on the top, this series of the Walbro pumps has a dry lift capability of two feet, that means even if the hose is empty, it can suck the fuel two feet straight up to the pump if needed. once fuel reaches the pump it has a prime anyway, most pumps are damaged if they run dry like this. This is one of the only pumps i've seen that can pull fuel not just push it. This is my solution to locating the pickup in the tank in the correct position, and being able to use a factory pump sock.
first I machined this aluminum adapter to replace the pump, this will locate the pump sock in the correct position in the tank, i cut a groove in the body for the hanger clamp,

I moved the sock up slightly, for some reason it sits against the tank, and restricts flow

First I milled it out at 3/8, then I used a tapered 7/16 reamer to ream it for the pipe threads, the other side was milled out at 3/4 for the adapter for the pump sock

this is the sock adapter, I took a 1/4 aeroquip coupler, machined one end to fit the pump sock, and cut a retaining groove, the other end was machined to 3/4 and pressed into the other piece, then tig welded

I decided to use a facet pump, I guess i could add the return line right after the pressure side of the pump, basically what it is ,is a fitting brazed shut, with a 1/32 hole drilled in the braze, this allows a very slow leak of fuel back to the tank, this stops pressure creep from right behind the regulator, i need to find the formula to figure out exactly how big the hole needs to be, but I need to know the demand of fuel at mid throttle to calculate it. Thats going to be hard to figure out.got my pickup installed in the tank finally, I can't believe the poor quality of the in tank pumps available for this car, I have an original pump on a hanger, and two aftermarket pumps and hangers, and every one is different, hangers are different lengths, the aftermarket pumps look like cheap junk, and they are supposed to all be the same, and don't get me started on the carter pumps, complete garbage, i had six fail in a row, the counter person at Oreilies told me they discontinued the brand,so many came back, It's a little tough to find a low pressure in tank pump, at least a quality one. I'm just going to install a good facet pump under the car. This is my hanger I created to replace the pump,
I ended up drilling out the rivet holding in the old electrical connector, and drilled and tapped for 1/8 npt, pretty heavy material in this hanger, and installed a 1/8 to -4 right angle. I have a fitting i made that is brazed up with a 1/32 hole drilled through the braze, this allows a controlled amount of fuel to cycle back to the tank

I'm waiting for my facet pump to get here, I borrowed one from work which is identical to the one I ordered, This is the plate with the filter and pump, I'm using three exisiting unused threaded holes on the frame rail to bolt this to.
pattern transferred to steel plate

I use 3M vhb tape to hold the patten for marking the plate

well this is what my new pump will look like, It should be here in a couple of days

this is what it looks like under the car, I finally figured out how to run the lines to hook everything up, i'm just waiting on a fitting. I still need to make a stone guard for the pump

I got more done on the fuel pump, I wanted to add something to protect the pump and filter from flying road debris,
these are the end brackets, I already had cut them, and drilled and tapped them

the finished bracket

milling the support brackets

bottom plate

I'm still waiting on some fittings to come in, as well as the actual pump, should be here tomorrow

This was going to be the side cover, but I left it on my bench at the house this morning, doh, so i started over.

This is the new cover, I already put the hole in the center of it on the mill. The hole is needed to clear the bolts on the filter

while deburring the hole, I decided it was a good time to give blood,

of course it needs paint, other then the center cap, and i need to finish putting the rivets in the lower bracket, but it all fits. I think this will protect the pump and filter well

went out there, cranked up bluesville on the big speakers in the loft and did some more. The new pump should be here tomorrow, the fitting from Summit already made it here.

Your hatch has so many AN fittings! i have only managed a few on my fuel system. I did a in tank Walboro complete underbody route of -6an line as well. I had to remove the fuel lines from the cab, they were in the way of mounting points on my roll cage.
+1 for hatch owners.

the ones with yellow are old school fittings from the 80's, they were never used, but have been sitting in bags all these years, I have all kinds of stuff around like that, I was worried about the pump being upside down, but I found out the 2nd gen Lude guys have been running these pumps upside down for years. They are recommended for webbers, I came up with this idea, then ran across a thread where they were mounted in almost the same spot on the ludes. It's interesting that on the three G, there are mounting holes in that spot, and an added piece of hard line, plus the line going into the car is identcal to the one on the lude. the Ludes have a factory underbody pump though. It looks like the Accord was designed for one to mount there
Looks great, waaay over engineered but I like that.
Not hating here but... What was the problem with the intank pump? Most intank pump problems are pickup related and that looks to be about the only thing you didn't change.

the carb pumps fail all the time on this car, you used to be able to get the bosch pump, but when I tried to get one they said it had been discontinued, I've been through about 8 pumps, the tank is spotless inside, the pickup is fine, the pumps available are just complete crap. It's not exactly easy to find a low pressure in tank pump. I'll have to take a picture of a Factory pump next to one of the replacement ones
