I had a Fidanza flywheel untill some of the teeth broke off and flew around finally exiting the side of the bell housing. I am now back to stock. No need for that non-sense. Ryan

Hey man, glad you mentioned you have a Comptech AL flywheel. I am soon considering one since it the lightest most reliable AL flywheel I've come across (and I've had great experiences with Comptech products).
My question to you and anyone else with a lightweight wheel is how has the engine and drivability changed with this flywheel. Give me the obvious pros and the not so obvious cons.

TIA

Under what conditions did the failure occur?

Lightened Flywheel

Pros - Engine revs fastier and easier.

Cons - None.

It's just that simple.

This one?

IndigoSpeed HP Acura Performance aluminum flywheels are made of the highest quality materials. They are made of 6061 or 7075 aluminum. They are machine cut on our state-of-the-art CNC machines. Our aluminum flywheels are anodized with Indigo blue for a beautiful finish. The friction surface is a heat-treated special alloy steel that is attached with aircraft quality hardware .The ring gear is heat-shrunk on and the secured with aircraft quality fasteners.
For your bang-for-the-buck, the IndigoSpeed HP Acura Performance aluminum flywheel is the best performance increase you can make to your street car or race car. Engine life is also increased by using a IndigoSpeed HP Acura Performance aluminum flywheel. Since our Acura Performance aluminum flywheel is so much lighter there is much less stress on the engines main bearings. Using our lightweight aluminum flywheel is a race proven way to improve the performance of any street or race car. A lighter aluminum flywheel means less rotating mass. Why is that so important? It means that more horsepower is being applied to the ground. Horsepower gains can vary widely with lightweight aluminum flywheels depending on what has been done to the vehicle. Some gains as high as 10 to 30 horsepower have been seen. IndigoSpeed HP lightweight Acura Performance aluminum flywheels are the perfect choice for road racing ,drag racing and

Thanks for the response but what from what I understand, tricky launches and under damped engine vibration may make the daily driving experience not so pleasant. My question I guess is how unpleasant is it. I guess from your answer you have no problems.
The thread I was directed to pretty much gave me good insight. I am pretty much sold on the Comptech AL.
Anyone else?

From the very first instant that I put my comptech flywheel, plus ACT HDSS, I have never had a problem launching. No stalling, or anything. There's no loss of torque.

Torsional Damping. With the flywheel, it's not that big of an issue, because dont' forget the pressure plate is out there, the clutch is out there, and when the clutch is ingaged, all the the transmission is there. Plenty of stuff to soak up all that extra vibration...

I'll post another review when my main bearings go out in 150k miles...

I just wrote a very long post about flywheels and managed to lose it on my computer.

Summation - you are a vendor and making money off your sales to us, do you trust someone who is making money off of you?

Price of a product reflects the quality of the product, amount of R&D that went into it, quality of the assembly, quality control, and the quality of the materials used...just because something is more expensive for less doesn't necessarily mean that it is an inferior product, many times it is a far superior product.

Austin - who is upset for loosing the nice message that he wrote

Iggy...it looks similar to the text written by Fidanza:

The flywheel itself is made from either 6061 T6 or 2024 T3 aluminum depending on the model. Both of these materials are tempered aluminum which are very, very strong yet very lightweight.

The friction surface is very special. We use a 1050 high carbon, alloy steel. This alloy is perfect for this use. It is incredibly durable allowing the use of just about any clutch disc material available from organic to Kevlar and even sintered iron.

We attach the friction surface using aerospace nuts and bolts or 304 stainless steel rivets depending on the application. These are some of the best fasteners money can buy. We chose them because of their incredible shear strength and resistance to corrosion.

All of our ring gears are heat treated for durability. They are heated, pressed on and then secured using grade 10 fasteners.
And it looks like one of their flywheels too.
