burnt main board capacitor
This has happened on an unmodified B16A (P30) ecu. Never had trouble with the ecu, used for many years on a stock B16. It was removed recently and sent to xenocron for an s300 transformation. They notified me that the ECU powers up, but that there is major burn damage to the main board capacitor. Could this have anything to do with injector wiring? Before removing the ecu installed an obd 1 H22A, with an injector resistor box. Have not tried starting the car, but have cycled the key to run several times before pulling the computer. Input appreciated.
If you never ran the engine for a prolonged time and you installed the resistor box it shouldn't be the injector circuit.
A lot of those caps are coming up on 20 years old and probably near the end of their duty cycle. It's well documented that they will start to leak onto the board and cause shorting.
Do you know what cap it was C14, C12 etc. etc..... that would help isolate the issue.
I replace the caps on all the ECUs that I chip these days, just for that reason. They are only rated for so many operational hrs.

thank you ghost accord for this very informative response. I am not sure which cap it was. I am not very knowledgeable of the inside of an ECU. I will post this information when I get it from xenocron. I do feel better knowing that this probably isnt due to my own stupidity, although its possible
