93 sol chugging fuel
So the other day I started a topic about the rattle in my Del sol and got such fast helpful responses I wanted to ask about this as well. My old topic got buried in the pages so I just made a new topic.
This weekend I plan to do
Oil
Spark plugs
Tire Rotation
Water Pump
and
Timing belt
The oil is old but not very used as are the spark plugs. The car sat for about 6 months and I haven't gotten to do any maintenance because I had to register this car as an emergency last week because my other car that I was driving while working on this one died.
I've had old oil/spark plugs before but never had mileage get this bad right now I only get about 60-80 miles per quarter tank.... Like its atrocious. I used to get 550 miles per tank and now its down to like 2xx. Any advice other than the things I listed that I should do/ check?
Thanks.

air filter? even if you haven't driven it in a while, it can still get dirty. Not to sure about what else you could check that would be minor. Im getting the same with my del sol, but i also put in a new motor thats running funky because of my IACV. Just check everything...radiator flush my help. Keep the car running at the right temp. Hope that helps.
I just got a 93 1.6 and i'm only getting like 280 or 300 miles full tank. All I have is a exhuast but I'm guessing my mileage must be shitty too. My check engine light comes on and off so I'll prob end up checking that out but it seems to run fine.
so its doing better now that you cleaned the filter? or you already cleaned it and the filter was always good and not the problem? just confused on what you mean exactly.
So, what's pretty good, SammyG? Back to normal mileage? Did you change your air filter? Plugs OK? Wires? Tire pressure? Trunk empty? How cold is it where you live and are you slugging through snow?
There are a bunch of things that can cause crap for MPG.

550 miles per tank ( Assuming a 10 gallon tank ) is freaking good . ( too good to be true ) .
that would be 55 mpg.
The 250-300 per tank is more the norm which is 26-30 mpg .
Run the car till close to empty ( get all the old gas out ) , fill up fully , and measure how far you went .
that would be 55 mpg.

Maybe not 550 but somewhere in the low 400's.
With the D16Z6 I'm getting about 300 per tank with conservative driving, about 80% city 20% highway. That's about 30 mpg.
