Post 93 del slow need some umph

hello,
well this is my 1st post here so heres what i got my 93 del sol si iv been thinking of some thing to do to up the power. i have done some turbo my self i know thats an option but i dont trust the d15 rods and i have a mini me swap as of now. i rebuilt the whole bottom end its still all stock. so i was thinking of b20 swap with a turbo. me and my friend jeff did this to his old tag and it was fast as hell so any inputs good/bad hit me im vary open minded to others opinions .

Just boost what you have. B20s and boost are not a good combo. If you're thinking about boost check the builds in the Forced Induction forum and read all the stickies and FAQs.

What horsepower are you looking to get? Nothing matters until you set that number.

id be more than happy with 300hp on the button. i had around that with my dsm and it was heavy car with awd but it handled it. but the b series seem so much stronger than the d series not just rodes but blocks too. and this is from me and my friend jeff with his swaps over the last 2 years we turbo 3 and supercharged 1 del sol and i have turbo my mx5 lol. but the whole goal isnt to be the fasted guy. its for a personal best in numbers. so you really think a mini me turbos worth bc i can get a full nice turbo setup for d series for cheap bc hes doing d18c in his crx

now I'm not saying search... but.... Start searching on D series Vitara turbo builds...

basicly... vitara pistons are cheap as hell pistons that D series guys throw on eagle rods and boost the **** out of... (someone correct me here if I'm wrong) but there are a few guys in the 500 to 600hp range on these cheap *** ebay pistons...

By saying cheap don't mistake this as I'm saying they suck... I'm talking price...

There is also a vendor fj something that sells them in whole kits rods pistons blah blah blah cheap as hell too... Super cheap builds amazing hp... But Your tune is of upmost importance...

yeah i looked into those i didnt know if they are worth the time in a day. my friends have b motors and they swear thats the only way to go. but hell ill give a shot i already have a spare d15 in my room bc i used one d15 for my mini me and ones for a back up its not together. that would be a good start i wouldnt have to swap all the stuff for a b motor. yeah you dont have to tell me about tuning iv leaned my lesson with tuning on dsm's lol but thinks ill do some more home work on those pistons .

300 hp is 300 hp... D or B... 300 hp is 300hp...

Now what you have to concider is that you can make 300 hp on a stock b16...
But you can't on a stock D16/15...

Building a D with vitera's and you have atleast added a little bit of insurance... but from what I've been seeing just about the same as what a stock B16 can handle... there was a thread in the fi section about a month ago where a guy made IIRC 632 hp on a stock b16... then FJ I beleive made just around the same amount on Vitera's in a D block...

You also have to concider the cost of swapping the B16... heres the thing about b20... they were never ment to rev past 6300ish or so... b16 8700 or so... So you would have to build the B20 to have any type of revs out of it...

Turbo D Vitera build would be cheapest... I ramble sorry...

dude, get you a B20 bottom end and a B18 or B16 fully built top end. In a del sol this set up is a total sleeper. If you wanna spray, the stock B20 stuff will take a small shot but if you want to put a thick shot to it, throw some forged pistons and rods in the bottom end and your ready for action. I knew a guy that had the B20 bottom end stock, and a B18 top end that was fully built, all aftermarket and it would ride out!!!!
throw a GSR lsd tranny in it if spraying and a B16 tranny if your boosing or running na. The B16 has way shorter gears in it than the GSR but the GSR is great for spray because you control when you spray instead of waiting on a turbo to spool up. Plus, with the GSR tranny you can still get 32-36 mpg

ok sounds good and dont worry about ramble on i do too lol but the info is good its nice to here from some one to give me new out looks and ideas. well im getting a turbo set up for 400 bucks hardly used from my friends d16 crx like i said hes going b series now. im also getting an other block so thats 2 back ups and its got crank rods and pistons. this seem like the way to go. i like d series bc i get parts fast and cheap just dont like the rods lol. but money wise i dont have tons but i can spend a ***** here and there. im in no hurry to build this set up even if takes a year but it wont i get antsy lol. oh the turbo a t3t4 64 trim i think its more than 60 i know that. but the spray idea isnt for me im not much for nitrous but good idea.

vitaras net low lower compression then using wiseco ,cp,arias. vitaras usally come out to 8:5 and almost 7:5 compression ratio in a D15 they dont even reach the deck of the block. FJ distributors used to make custom rod set up that would fix this and raise the compression back up. having higher or close to stock compression 9:4-9:6 would be ideal the turbo wont have to work as hard to make power. i would find a d16 if i were you (z6 preferably,y7's and y8's are inferior for spinning rod bearings) and ditch the d15. 64 trim is WAY too big ur gonna have horrible turbo lag. many D owners run a 57 trim ebay turbo and they have alil bit of lag. many use spray on boost to help spool time on a big turbo like the one u have. if ur wanting high Hp and run pump gas id look into methanol injection as well so u can run alil more aggressive timing.i believe from what im reading your not too knowledgeable yet trying to use a 64 trim or anything over a 60trim turbo especially journal bearing on a d16. a decent power cheap cam would be a zex cam. many have had success with it. also a built port n polished head would help lower your spool time as well with the cam. your not gonna make 300hp on a stock d series and have it last. you can make about 220hp (less with a d15) and have it still be reliable. going the cheap route (like using an ebay turbo as they're known to blow seals make sure to use a restrictor it has been known to prolong the life of the seals) Google is your friend read about some builds, as a member of turbo d16 its a great site to learn about strictly d16 turbo motors. Even the lil D16 has been known to go 9's and as bisi has showed us it is possible to make 735hp =o) if your boosting i wouldnt even bother with a mini-me many have made the same power with a non vtec head and can be ported out more with no oil galleries in the head like the vtec heads do. b20's have thin cylinder walls and is not good with boost and high cylinder pressures causing it to crack a sleeve. it would be better to use a b16 block if goin b series with stronger thicker cylinder walls...im a D series fan all the way my sec favorite would be a K series be able to make over 400 on a stock block no problem. i just picked up a k24 form a crv for 550 bux a few months ago. they're also pretty cheap. i would say you need to do some more homework.

Yeah nothing in the process just yet other than my mini me thats already done this is a side project on using a completely diff engine bc I have 2 going to be 3 engines here soon to play with so I have em at my disp. Yeah I thought that turbo was too big but 400 bucks for every thing I can't pass it up it only has maybe 12 mile on it and it's every thing manifold i/c bov greaddy btw all hard piping and wast gate I can sell the turbo and get a smaller one
