Default B swap + mounts = does your valve cover RUB the hood?

So i had a question, I've had my GSR with hasport billet mounts for +5yrs.
From the begining it hit the underside off my hood, and I just ended up cutting the under-structure of the hood. (see below)

Now that i'm getting everything painted & bought a new hood, I would like to know what I can do to prevent rubbing on the hood to valve cover.

Options:

a) just cut the new hood's under-structure
b) space my hood (kind of ghetto)
c) take the driver side hasport mount and mill off a few 4-5mm so that motor sits lower on that side....

?Q?
LMK what mounts you have and if you have any rubbing issues with stock hood.

mine rubbed a little bit when my valve cover was polished,...nows its painted and it doesnt rub. Lol maybe it rubbed just enought material off so that its hella flush with the bottom of my hood. Id get a SiR hood and then it will never rub again.

c) if you mill off the mount, the motor will end up being higher. if you need to drop the motor you can use some washer/spacers between the Hasport mount and stock post mount to drop it slightly.

the EFB1 kit was originally designed for a b16
b18 and b20 engines are taller than the b16 hence your rubbing issue

if you were to space the mounts down you would need to do so on all the mounts
removing material from the drivers side mount will not solve the problem

people have run the SiR hoods with success

True. First thing that came to my mind when I read option C.

So i'm assuming you have a MOUNT KIT for the b18 engine?
When i orderd the mounts It never gave me an option for b16 or b18... lol this was back in 02-03 or so.

Thank you for pointing out that I should use washer for both tranny & driver side mount

Do you know how much "mm" clearance I will need?
Any issues with the rear tranny mount lining up if I use washer on both tranny/driverside mounts?

I'm sure many past customers with b18 engines have asked you for this.

lmk - thanks

Honestly Charlie, I wouldn't shave the mount. It was designed for a b16 maybe, but by shaving the mount it could cause more safety concerns. Well for me at least. When I had my wagon, my GSR would rub like hell. I just used a dremel to nicely cut my hood. that solved the problem. I would just have your body work guys, do their magic on it and shave/cut the hood.

BTW even today with the newer generation mounts they still rub the hood regardless. I am thinking they did this because of maximum ground clearance.

This is Ge from MNH.

Another option would be to get something like a VIS "SiR" style hood made for a usdm car which has the mild cowl making for extra clearance.

I've got the EF8 front end for my car, lot's of room with that combo of Hasport mounts and B18C

Thanks Ge,

Yeah but my new hood, they already painted it with out cutting out the under-frame like my old hood, so I'll have to bring the hood back to them.... I kind of don't want to do that. They will repaint it for free but it's just more down time.

ground clearance i'm not all that worried about because my car is not all that low, even with the progress kit, I'd probably only take it down to about 1.9-2" in the front and 1.75" in the rear...

I'll try the washer trick first, it's cheap and I don't have to repaint my hood. lol
