Default Fan switch Ectune/Neptune

Is it necessary to run a fan switch when using the built in fan controller in ectune/Neptune?

I am working on a new intake design for my JRSC and it does not allow for clearance to the fan switch plug. I normally use the feature in ectune to control the fan and wondered if the fan switch was needed at all.

I may be switching to Neptune and was not sure if it has the same feature.

You do need a relay, if that's what you're asking. It doesn't have to be the stock one or in the stock location.

NepTune does have the fan control feature.

I ASSUMED that since I was able to over ride the fan switch activating the fan at a lower temperature that the switch on the thermostat housing becomes irrelevant?!

No, that still fully functions as long as everything is hooked up and working... but you can lower the temp the fan will turn on by activating it early via the ECU. The thermostat will still function, but it'll already be activated. You can't raise the temp since the t-stat will turn on earlier than the ECU.

So not having the fan switch at all shouldn't be a problem since it is activated by the ecu.

You'll need to look at a wiring diagram for that info. I don't know if the t-stat is wired to the same relay or not off hand.

Maybe I'm explaining this wrong or misunderstand you.

The fan control in ectune/neptune will switch the fan on without the fan switch on the thermostat housing calling for the fan to be on, correct? Example : i set Neptune to have the fan to come on @ 170 deg and I am using a 180 deg fan switch. The fan switch becomes irrelevant because the fan switch set-to come on after the fan control on the ecu.

Right, but it won't work without the relay which is why I said check the wiring diagram.

Correct, I don't believe I ever mentioned removing the relay only not having room for the fan switch plug.

Both the ECU and Fan switch trigger the ground side of the fan relay. Whichever one grounds it first.

Wow that was seriously way too many posts for 1 question! haha.

I'm all for eliminating wires and un necessary wiring in my car, That sensor is pretty worthless though, when I found out neptune had the ability to control the fan I wired up FANC on the ecu and eliminated the switch on the thermostat housing as it clicked on about 200degrees.

fan is setup at 180 now.
And.... It's raining outside.

I have a hard time explaining myself sometimes.

I never had to wire anything for my fan control to work...

It's wired on most cars from the factory, but never utilized. Some cars don't have it prewired.

Any idea why Honda has this feature pre-wired I'm not aware of any conditions it is used with everything factory.

Any RD-1 specials going on? pretty please!

They mapped the pin on the ECU to be capable of using it, but didn't. I'm not sure why they didn't.

I had a special at launch. I may have another later on, who knows.
