So i got Freon added in my 97 accord back in Sept 2010, but now since its warming up in Alabama I've tried running the a/c and i notice that my Condenser Fan was not running when i checked. Is there any test to figure out why the fan isnt blowing? Thanks
If the compressor clutch engages when you turn on the A/C but the condensor fan fails to run I would perform a voltage drop on the condensor fan. Given the age, if the fan motor hasn't been replaced, the fan motor is likely worn out.
Well, look down at the compressor to see if the plate on the front of the pulley is spinning with the pulley. The plate is the clutch.
Point being, if the compressor clutch isn't engaging, there may be a command/feedback issue which would also prevent the fans from being turned on.
Voltage drop is checked ideally with the fan plugged in. But, you can unplug it to avoid backprobing through the rubber seals. Turn on the A/C and measure the voltage from one terminal to the other on the engine harness side of the connector. If you have 12volts, the fan is probably faulty. If you have 0 volts, there is a problem with the fan command, which would indicate a potential problem with the A/C system, or a wiring problem going to the fan.
Checking the fan is easier than it sounds.

You need to check for voltage command at the compressor clutch with the A/C on. Careful you don't injure yourself, though.
Just because the clutch doesn't engage doesn't mean the clutch is faulty. It needs voltage to operate.

I also have issues with my ac. Not sure if it's the compressor itself, it is engaging and is blowing air. I refilled the freon back in October of last year, and in a matter of months, the air in the vents isn't blowing as cold with the freon. I noticed there is black gunk around one of the AC lines? Possible leak? I showed it to a mechanic friend, and he told me that the compressor and clutch are engaging. I see the pulley operating. Will get leak test done, just looking for some suggestions. Thanks
