Thinking about paint my project Integra because it has really bad oxidation on the passanger side,

I wanna do it myself but need to know what kinda paint gun and/or air compressor to use... what to look for what not to look for....

And also the process by which I should follow... Like prime, paint, clear??? or what??

Ok...there r alot of factors that come into play...personally...I use a satajet 3000 for my base and a iwata lph 400 for clear...as far as an air compressor...something that doesn't have a lot of moisture build up and will consistently hold around 18psi to it gun...as far as paint akzo Nobel's sikkens line of paint is very nice...it lays out like glass if u know what ur doing...as far as primer...I love color build primer is lays out really well and sands awesome...do u have access to a booth? Are u planning on shooting a solid or metallic color?

just plan on doing factory color repaint, so what color primer should i use or does it not matter? and as far a booth goes im prolly gonna just plastic off a barn at my house.... sucky but its all ive got for now, if all goes well i would like to make this a little side buisness for friends that have helped me with motor swaps and what not. i started painting car parts in h.s where we had a full vented paint booth and paint guns and what not and have always wanted to paint cars i love painting just dont know how to get started on my own

As said above, Sikkens is an amazing product, but with greatness comes great price. You're looking about 120 a quart, and at least 300 for the clear kit. I spray Sikkens everyday and absolutely love it, but I'm not painting my own car with it due to the price. Also, as far as paint guns go, there's all sorts out there. Have different guns for different materials. A cheap harborfreight or walmart gun works fine for primer. If you're looking at price, then you're best bet is DevilBiss. If you have deep pockets then SATA or Iwata.

What is your budget for the compressor?

I use Devilbiss Finishline (2 or 3?) guns and they work just fine if you know how to set them. You can get a decent one for around $150.

Ur primer color really doesn't matter unless ur shooting water born...yes for a primer gun just go get a cheap *** gun lol...devilbiss does make fairly good guns for the price...as far as paint yes sikkens is pricey but so worth it especially their clear...a matrix system paint isn't so bad for the price...

Depends on how big that compressor is, and yes they have those guns in sets, try ebay, Eastwood Company.com devilbiss, harborfreight.

No, sorry for the confusion. I was saying the gun I have is either a series 2 or 3 Finishline gun. Pretty sure it is a Finishline 2, I just hate to say something if I am not 100% sure

I think they sell them 1 at a time and there are some pretty good sellers with good prices right on eBay.

Some 'pros' might disagree, but IMO you can do most anything with that gun and some practice

Good deal thats the answer I was looking to hear. But I guess the next question would be, When adding paint thinner to primer, base coat, and clear coat what ratio do you use? Im assuming that each paint is a bit different, but what should I start at?

You need the data sheet from the paint manufacturer before you ever start opening paint cans. Most of them are available on the manufacturers' websites.

I've personally never used it or heard anything about it.....you might do some googling and find out who makes it for them. 90% chance it's one of the known big companies.

You might also want to ask that question autobody101.com, they have a lot of paint gurus over there.

I've used harbor freight guns for primer, base, & clear.. If you know how to paint you should be able to setup a gun to shoot the way you want it to shoot.

Even with a decent gun or pro gun.. if you dont know how to shoot it, its not going to look good anyways.

you may wanna use a compressor with capacity of 125 psi or more. I used a smaller one and kept having to wait for the tank to catch up. And I also used a harbor freight gun...it was pretty simple to setup thwe way I wanted to spray. And a qwuick note: it was my first time and I used a google search on how to paint, also watched a couple you tube videos. GL

Actually what is most important is CFMs, because is how much airflow you are going to get with your gun/tool going full blast. You could have a compressor that will make 125 psi, but it may drop of dramatically once you start demanding steady airflow from it.

yeah I have watched a few you tube videos, and tried researching a little bit here and there on google, but question how many coats of each paint did you put down (primer, base, and clear) and how long did you wait in between sprays?
