omg help -.- SMOKE
specs: d16z6 in a 91 crx si IMPORTANT NOTE: one bolt i forgot to bolt to my throttle position sensor... ( back side of intake manifold ) ok i recently replaced my headgasket. i am getting a ... WHITE i think smoke out of my exhaust pipe... when i hit the accelterator and when it drops back down to idle it spits black, thin fluid. its not oil i think. i have tested it multiple times and it isnt oily much. i let it sit for about 15 minutes and the smoke has thinned out ALOT. when i took it for a test drive it goes through about 4 stages of power through first gear. almost like my vtec has 4 stages. my vtec oil sensor is broke during this test drive, i am waiting for a new one in mail. i MAY have over filled my oil but this wouldnt cause the power jump... maybe the bolt missing out of idle sensor on the intake manifold is causing the power loss and an over fill in oil is causing the smoke?
was the block / head perfectly square and not warped when you installed the headgasket? did you mix a coolant line with a vacuum line? is your throttle body gasket bad around the coolant ports on it?
i know i did overfill the oil haha. i have not emptied the oil yet. i am waiting for my vtec sensor, just want to get as much info as possible. i knwo for SURE all my vacuum lines are hooked up correctly. i only replaced my intake manifold, valve cover, and head gaskets. i have a FULL head gasket set though so if i could get some help locating these coolant ports on my throttle body and which gasket to install on them then i will get that done just to make sure
White smoke is water vapor. It is not uncommon to have a lot of residual water in the exhaust system after a blown head gasket. did you have the head decked after removal to be sure it is level?

i know this is completely retarded but NO... i did not lol. i know the possibilities of the damage that may be. but i would like to be positive and check other solutions first :D this is my daily driver and decided i did not have time to put my head in a shop. but i did take MANY measurements with a mm side of a ruler and everything was on T
Well this is different but when I tried to tune my n/a with no turbo and my 750cc injectors, the oil was a little higher than normal. It caused me to foul plug after plug up, to where it was misfiring and jumping. Drained a little oil, it was fine!
And BTW you never use mm sides of rulers when measuring engine parts....use a dial caliper :D
go to your exhaust and waft the exhaust and smell it. Does it smell sweet!?!? If so that is coolant and Blown headgasket most likely. You can dye you coolant to check for hydrocarbons/leaks yo

Well than that is prolly what it is which would explain that bucking maybe....
Hondas take a while to get warm. When first started they run rich and slowly get leaner until in the open loop then runs off o2. So could it possibly just be warming up. Does it do this when it is warm outside in the summer?

Oh well than not the running rich. Has to be caused by the headgasket and an internal leak. Have you compression tested it to see if it is leaking out of the HG?
you have two options for when your deck and head are warped.
1. you can either leave them both alone, cause they will sit flush together, use a d15b7 headgasket (its made of 1 piece composite material.) and give the deck/head a quick sand with 1000 grit wetsand.
or 2.
you can mill the head and deck, and use the d16z6 3 piece metal headgasket like you are supposed to.

ok. i have solved every problem BUT the leakage out the exhaust. i am not getting smoke anymore out the exhaust. its just getting fluid leak out of the exhaust. i left it started for about 20 minutes and checked my fluid level and it was still the same?
The car sounds like it is fine. A little water out the exhaust will not hurt anything. And I know running the car rich will clog the cat, not sure about water. The car is prolly running richer due to the cat being taking off. The exhaust can now breath more freely and with less back pressure.
well, the smoke solved itself. and the loss of power started happening again? im thinking its because the vtec oil pressure sensor is out? idk tho. i tightened my throttle position sensor bolt on that i forgot and it seemed like it helped but it didnt -.-
