I BROKE a UNKNOWN sensor... help plz
PIC here is showing it, im Repairing my head gasket with my trusty sidekick... repair manual. broke this GREEN sensor on the left side of my distributor while yanking a old hose in the back. early problems this is bad :D would appreciate any help identifying this and do i need to unmount that? it seems liek is has a nut built into it and is threaded down onto the head
oh im sorry for leaving out the details.. im still working on it and in a hurry to get it fixed before monday. you are right, engine is a d16z6 and it is on a 91 crx si
ANY ideas where i can buy one of these quick? or what kind of damage would it do running without it for a minute until i can get one ordered???? this is a bad thing for sure.... i use this car for transportation to and from work
Check salvage yards. You can find the same VTEC oil pressure switch on any '92-00 Civic w/VTEC (not VTEC-E), any Prelude w/VTEC, any Integra w/VTEC, and any J-series V6 (the VTEC spool valve on the V6 is located on the lower rear passenger side of the engine next to the oil filter).
A new one from Honda costs about $66 (part no. 37250-PR3-003).

i have heard of a couple ways to bipass these and am looking in my local area for a v-tec controller. another way i heard is another (maybe the same) product that wires into the ecu and to the (rpm sensor?) has a dial for the v-tec to kick in. anyone have the name of this?

i HAVE to get this car atleast running until i can do something about this. can i run the car without this oil pressure switch intact? will the vtec just not hit?
Whether you can run it or not depends on how it is broken. If it's spewing oil with the engine running, then don't run it. If it's not leaking any oil, then you can drive the car but the VTEC won't work and it will probably throw a CEL.
I broke that same switch in my GSR swap. You can run without it. VTEC will engage because that sensor is there to tell the system when NOT to engage. It senses low oil pressure and prevents VTEC from engaging. A failsafe if you will. I ran a couple of days without it until a new one came in.
You don't need the vtec pressure switch. Alot of OBD2 engines don't even have it.
Fix: Cut the pressure switch wire (the one between the ecu and the switch -- not ground) and splice it into the vtec +12v line. That'll satisfy the conditions the ecu is looking for and as long as it doesn't leak you'll be good to go.
