Default 92 vx b18c1: temp. reads low!!!

Rebuilt motor with less than 100 miles and my temp. gauge is reading super low. Replaced a new oem t-stat. Barely reading over above C line. When I put the heater on full blast, it drops all the way down. Also it never peaks around middle needle. Although the fan do turn on. Upper and lower radiator is normal hot. What could be the culprit? Please help me.

I dont have any actual troubleshooting steps, but i would check the wires for continuity, try swapping out the temp sensor (located underneath distributor only has 1 wire running to it) and if that didnt fix it then swap out the cluster.

Are you talking about the single wire with a black rubber?

The only thing is I don't have a multimeter reader.

I did. Let the fan turned on twice. The engine is really hot but not what the temp. gauge says.
