As title really, dizzy plug has 9 wires and loom
plug has 8 wires? What is the extra wire for? Im
guessing its not plug and play.

Post a photo of the plugs/sockets.

 

It is the wire for the Tach (Engine Speed Output). There will be a single blue wire on the drivers side firewall, that you can hook that distributor wire up to. http://htarchive.org/showthread.php?t=2797011
