Default 96-98 cx tranny

I have a ex tranny on my cx and my rpms sit way to high for my highway commute. Will a cx tranny sit at alot lower rpm? And is it still a good tranny. I am not going to beat it or race it ect I just want a good long tranny for my dd.

when you say ex tranny I assume you are talking about a d16y8 tranny, what rpm are are you sitting at on your highway commute and the MPH you are at. From what I seen the y8 tranny is pretty good on the highway

3,700 rpms at 65mph. And 4,500 at 75mph. I want to me at like 3 at 75 mph and 2.5 at 65mph.

That seems high even for an EX tranny. You can swap a CX/DX/LX tranny in but you aren't going to gain as much as you'd think you would for mileage, unless you do a lot of highway driving. EX trannys are great around town because you can usually get into overdrive at low speeds.
