new to honda, looking at a 93 si
hey guys i was looking for a new car and one of my buddies told me about a 93 hatch one of his friends had. i went and took look at it today and it needs some work. it has 300,000 miles on it and was involved in a minor front end fender bender. the guy only wants $250 for it and after i ran the VIN it turns out its an SI. my buddy said that an SI for $250 was stupid to pass up and he also told me he would help me fix it up. does it sound like something worth doing?, also he never told me what was so much better about the SI compared to the other models, it would be cool if someone could fill me in, thanks guys.
well does it run? is it molested, like did the owner ever ever change out the motor? also depending on location how rusted out is it? if it runs and minimal rust then hell yeah, drive it till it dies, then just rebuild the engine or swap it out.

^^ FAQ's about honda's around these years
well. Finding a clean title, rust free, accident free, original paint 92-95 civic hatchback is getting very hard to do. It can happen. but less and less.
Almost every 92-95 civic will have rust. Just because it's not exposed where you can see it, does Not mean it's not hiding and growing somewhere. -so not a huge deal-
paint is paint.... not a big deal.
Is it clean title? that would be a plus. but for $250 that's still a Great deal.
however. how bad is the damage? have you done a carfax? how many owners? how many miles? and above all. How much needs fixed?
Once you figure in how much it's going to take to fix it, then you'll have your decision.
Otherwise,,, for $250 if it's all there, you could part it out and make a killing.
Check under the hood and see how straight it looks.
I had a si once..... salvaged title. paid $3000. thought I was very happy.
did a Carfax after I bought. had like 6 front end accidents and hit a Pedestrian!!!
it looked good from a few feet away, but up close the maaco type paint job was horrible. tape lines around every edge. and in crevaces was dried sanded paint particles.
Then I looked carefully under the hood. lots of places where you could see headlight housings had been pulled out and bondo'd....
started eating the **** out of me. No matter how nice it looked, was a salvaged car that had a **** paint job and ran over someone haha.
so I sold it for $3000. got real lucky.
basically if you want to have a perfect hatch. This isn't going to please you in the long run.
if you want to make some money, boo yahhh...
or if you just dont care if it's been wrecked or money isn't a issue in fixing it. go for it too
hope this helps.
edit: after I had that si, sold for $3000, bought a 96 integra gsr. thought it was awesome. but too heavy and just as usual someone had dogged the **** outta the motor. Seems like every gsr I've driven has been like that
then I traded it for the 95 hatchback I have now. GOt real lucky. clean title. zero accidents. 4 owners. original paint. However. I do have a little rust. so this year, it's body work/rust repair/paint.

thanks for the quick answers guys. it has the honda rust around the rear wheels, it needs a new hood, 2 new fenders, bumper cover, and a core support. my buddy has a body shop so doing the paint and body wont be a prob. i was thinking about putting in a B18b, it seems like the best bang for your buck with 142 hp @ 6300 rpm & 127 ft·lbf @ 5200 rpm and a price of $550 from nagasaki jdm motors. my friend with the body shop has driven only honda's and has done his fair share of engine swaps so i feel good about not getting ripped off.

but just know that thats for the longblock only, you'll need all the mounts, shift linkage, the proper ecu or yours chipped for the b18, axles and most important a b-series transmission.
Thanks zleep, for $550 it comes as a complete swap.

no mention of anything that i said you will need to complete the swap
hence why under product description it says "B18B Integra Non-vtec Engine only"
