75% of power from intake comes from filter other 25% comes from temp,Airflow, location. Cold air Intake is just a B.S term. Cold air and short ram is there just for temp, Air flow location, easy removal, reduce chances for Hydrolocking Motor
And i forgot how Hondas air box works but if its how i remember it remove the Lid of air box to increase air flow to air box.

 

What about acoustic tuning?

 

If you want acoustic tuning then, remove the resonator box, and get 3" PVC piping and follow the routing of the OEM intake. Slap on the K&N filter and problem solved. If your worried about heat the get your favorite color of heat resistant rubber wrap. And wrap the PVC piping to make it more heat resistant, and stylish at the dame time. Can't get anymore custom then that.

 

I think you're missing the tuning part.

 

Not really... When it comes to changing the resonating tone of an induction system. It's about diameter of the piping. Think of it like a pipe organ, the different diameters and lengths of the pipes are what makes the different tones. The longer and larger around the pipes the lower the tone. The shorter and smaller diameter of the pipe the higher the tone.

And if you're talking about tuning the pipe for hp gains, I laugh...

Ok great I bet that intake had a high flow filter on it as well. The size of the pipe or where it was located might give it a .5 hp increase. And also that motor reacted to the intake differently from how another motor will react to it. No motor is equal in how it reacts to aftermarket parts. You could have two identical motors next to one another with the same intake. And the final hp/tq readings will be completely different.

And essentially what I posted before is the same as any name brand intake. Your just paying $90 for the home made intake vs $300 for a name brand intake. It's all about the name.

In my opinion the intake is a joke of an upgrade vs real gains from what you would get from a full exhaust system. He'll you free up more power from a light weight under drive pulley than you will get from a CAI/ WAI.

 

I agree that it's not worth paying $300 for an intake, but I disagree that length tuning has a minuscule effect on VE. Do you have dyno testing results to prove otherwise?

 

If I'm to cheap to spend the money on a $300 intake, I'm not spending the money to tune for an intake alone on a stock motor. But I bet you don't have sufficient enough evidence that an intake drastically increases hp either. So while we can both argue our ponts all night long. The fact is we are both right to a certain degree. In the end it's user preference, and up to the individual who is buying and what they want.

The real question is this, does it make you happy? Will you enjoy installing it? Will you feel good at the end of the day knowing you installed it, and modified your car?

The important thing is that you are installing a high flow filter. That is where you will get your hp increase. Albiet being maybe a 5-8 hp increase. With that WAI you're paying for the AEM name and the air filter. The downfall of a WAI is that the filter is closer to the engine meaning it will suck in hotter air. And we all know hot air is bad vs cold air.

 

Yes, now spend $60 on a block filter and velocity stack and /popcorn.

Short ram is where it's at. Preferably a tuned length.
