How do i know if its a k20a head in a Type S?
Where can i find the stamp? Im new to K series, i know you can tell B series head by the stamp just below the valve cover 'pr3' 'p72' etc but have no idea for k series location and codes. The reason i ask is im looking at a Type S that is for sale and the seller says the engine stamp says k24a3, so was wondering if it had a k20/k24 swap done to it. Any help would be appreciated
thanks
thanks
they are all k20a's, lol...
but in all seriousness you do not want a k20a3, that is the ep3 motor...
your either want a k20a2, k20z1 or k20z3

PRB = RSX-S (02-04)
PRC = 05-06 type s
PNA = CR-V
PNL = EP3/base RSX
RBB = TSX
RBC = civic si/and i think euro accord
hope for rbc/prc/prb/rbb for "real" vtec..

thanks for the replies, but im just concerned about identifing the head..not the whole motor. So any help on where the Head stamp is located?
the codes I gave you are the codes for the head..not the block..if you cannot find the stamp pull the valve cover off and count the lobes on the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft..3 on the intake and 1 on the exhaust means its got "real vtec" and its either a newer si head, rsx-S head, itr head or tsx head

the only stamp I know of for the K-series is on the combustion side..

could you post any pictures of the engine bay? we could at least tell what intake manifold...i'd be weary of buying a swapped car if the owner doesnt know what head it is..

look right under the throttle body on the block make sure its says k20a2 first then pull ur valve cover an look and see if its a 2 lobe cam or 3 lobe if its 3 lobe its more than likley a a2 head unless someone droped alot of money to convert the a3 head
How do I identify if it is a k20a type r head? Looking at buying one local but I want to make sure it is really what it is. Btw does anyone know if the k20 type r heads are much better from the factory over the more common k20 heads ?
Type r head is the same casting as the type s but run's different component such as cam. On my k20a type r the stamp on the head is PRB which is k20a2 but my tap is still k20a and not k20a2. Youre suppossed to see a stamp on the head but i think its belong the intake manifold so its hard to look
