Head work done
I dont know man looks pretty good, the ports look clean. Just clean it up as much as possible with hot soapy water, get all the gasket crap off, install the head with good gaskets and do everything right and see how it runs.
When I got my heads back for a SB Ford they were clean. I recently picked up a reman H23 head from a local machine shop and it was spotless and ready to install. They normally go through a hot tank\cleaning process and that stuff should come off fairly easily when they pull it.

if your gonna do any kind of blasting you want to soda blast, as it will disolve and wash away.
no
any type of "blasting" uses different types of media such as sand or glass beads, crushed walnut shells, etc.
the best thing to use when it comes to engine components is baking soda because it can be washed out of all the oil passageways afterwards very easily since it disolves in water.
sand, glass beads etc. will NOT come comepletely out no matter how hard you try. so when you have your head/block sandblasted or glass beaded you end up w/ sand/glass in your oil and throughout your engine.
