Icon2 93 EX and 92 DX transmission Questions.

ok i was coming down the road and i heard a loud "bang" in the transmission and when that happened i had no forward or reverse gears. the transmission had been vibrating the past few months. I replaced the CV axels and other odd and end stuff on the front but i do have a 92 dx transmission that i am going to swap in.

NOW.....

the questions i have are:

1} what was it that possibly snapped in my transmission that i lost the gears all at once?

2} i know the EX transmission is a lower geared 1-3 than the DX but will it matter?

later on it will be a Turbo DOHC ZC swap thats coming in next.

3} with the longer gears of the DX transmission with it help the turbo spool up?

yes some of the questions may sound like NEWBIE questions but i would rather be safe than sorry.

My guess right off hand is the diff or final drive blew up. Only way to know for sure is to pull the tranny and pull it apart and check the damage.

I still refuse to buy into the "longer gears are better for boost" argument. The quicker you can get through the gears the better.

i dont do alot of drag racing around here, its mainly back roads and highways that i race on. getting through the gears is nice but kinda sucks *** when u are redlining at 8 grand and only going 125.

after i get my car out of the shop im going to tear the other transmission apart and see what actually broke and maybe replace it and a few other things..... lol. if i dont then ill prolly jus save up for a swap and get rid of the POS single cam

Diff or final drive. If its the diff you'll be able to see when you take the axles out.

You will definitely feel the difference with the DX trans, it's quite a bit longer. It will take longer to spool as the ramp of each gear is longer.

The only time longer is better is when you're running on the flats or a standing mile.

I'm talking about sanctioned standing mile events. I'm sure people that do it on highways do it differently all over the country.
