Help guys. I think alternator is goin out 1990 da with a b18b
I just finished a swap in my da. Me and my neighbur swaped in a b18b and it runs great! But. The battery light comes on at around 2500 rpm and below. For example. When im at idle the light comes on and when i start moving and i rev around 2500 and the light starts flickering. And then around 2800-3000 rpm the light turns off. Then today i went to go drive the car after i installed a rear strut bar and it was good for a few minutes. Then the car started to hesitate and finally die after a few houndred feet. I got my mom to come jump me and the car started right up.
Some backround info: when we swaped the motor i went to put on the belt that was on the old motor on the new motor. When i tried it didnt wannna go on.. I was like wtf.. Then i look at the pulley on the old motor an notice that the alternator belt track. Whatever you call it was smaller. So i swapped pullies and the belt went right on. I made sure to make the belt relatively tight. And then the stuff mentioned above happened. Anybody have any suggestions of whats happening? Can i try to tighten the belt or is the alternator going out? Or maybe a loose connection. I

Your distributor has nonething to do with your alternator. Get a multi meter and set it to dc voltage. Place the red prob to pos and the black prob to neg. It should read 13.9-14.4 volts. Do not try to check amps with a dmm.

Well. Its definetly the alternator. Today my friend jumped me off and as soon as we unhooked the jumper cables the car died. Im gonna have to get this alternator tested or somethin. I might have a loose connection or something. Or maybe i forgot to hook up a ground during the swap i just did? Would a ground cause all these problems?
if you just use a multimeter to test the battery while it is running that will tell you if it is the alt or the battery. While it is running it should be somewhere around 13.5 volts or higher. If it is below that it is the alternator. Also replacing the alternator isnt really a pain but you will need to pull the axle and intermediate shaft to get it out but with it dying like that while running it is more than likely the alternator. Make sure you test the battery to ensure it holding a good charge after replacing the alternator.
I got the battery tested today at autozone and then they tested my alternator. The guy told me that the voltage regulator was going out. So tomorrow im gonna go to my local pull a part and get a new alternator. I was wanting to know what other hondas have alternators compatible with my b series
