86 Civic Charge light?
Alright i got this 86 civic si that lately i cant figure out this chargine light issue. My battery light on the dash keeps going on and off. Sometimes under 3k or 4k rpm the light will stay off but as soon as it goes under those rpms the light comes back on and im sure its not charging the battery when the light is on as i had to limp it home over the weekend due to this issue. I ran it by a auto shop and had them check the alt with there scanner and they said the battey, alt and starter all were good. I changed the alt belt and made sure the alt bracket was adjusted and the belt is tight so i know its not due to a loose belt. Any ideas??

Re: 86 Civic Charge light?
Could be you alternator going out or your alt. belt is too loose or too tight. You have to play around with the alt. belt. I had this problem before with my 86 Civic SI....bad alternator, got a new alternator installed, but the light came on and off so I play around with the belt tension and the light went away, never had any problem since. Good luck.

Re: 86 Civic Charge light?
Ill try to adjust the belt tension later today and see if i get lucky. I had it checked out last night again at a different auto parts store and he said his machine was telling him there was no output so he thought maybe a wire is frayed somewhere or loose. Ill check all connections and belt tension adjustment again later today with hopes of some luck. Thanks

Re: 86 Civic Charge light?
it was indeed the alternator. Pulled it off and took it directly in to get tested and failed miserably twice so installed new alternator and problem fixed! Thanks guys.
