ive just acquired a del sol in pretty bad shape.
its been raped with a rustoleum can and many others over time.
its last car wash consisted of me wiping it down with paint thinner to remove all the dirt and white dust from it. didnt even touch the rustoleum coat.
its very flaky and peels off relatively easy from the previous rattle can layer but its a bitch to sand down or use paint remover.
took me few days to get it off the targa top and fenders.
so obviously im taking it down to the original paint because its peeling in random places.
the probme is while taking the rustoleum off im also rounding off the sharp edges when using wobbly sander.
can i use high build primer along the lines and then sand it back down to create sharper lines.
------------------------
im also planning to mold the rear trim pieces(plastic) to the body since they only cover the frame weld seams and drain tubes. (which i will clean before molding)
can i use fiberbondo to fill up the gaps around it.
just the sides not the top(3rd brake light panel) because i think it will crack when the car flexes.
im also filling up the grooves on top where the bike rack mounts.
then i was wondering what would be the best way to remove the dips on the door where sidemoldings normally go.(the line in the middle of the door that extends to fender as well.
can i use bondo? will it crack from opening and closing the door?
(this is not my del sol, im just using it for reference)

and im also planning to remove the side reflectors adn fog lights from the bumper. what is the best way of doing that? epoxy a plate behind it and fill up with bondo or plate behind it and cut a filler plate for the hole as well and epoxy both?
and also the antenna hole,(its already missing and i dont listen to radio)
and by best way i mean the one that will last longest. not the quick and easy.

Lol just trying to save you from completely screwing up your car. I didn't bother posting the correct way to do all of that because it's not something you read in a post and learn. By all means though.....wear that body filler out pal.
You might not like my post but please don't do anything you mentioned the way you posted.
I saw this link on here the other day.....buy one of them. I mean that in a nice way.

Might not be my problem, but I am saving you from a nasty one. You need a lot of welding if you want to do any of this the right way. You have no experience obviously and your list is a lot to do "the right way."

Did you get the car for free (asking since you said "acquired")? If so then t might be a better idea to look into donating the car to a church or such, which could potentially give you fair market value. Then you could potentially buy a car that is in a bit better shape.
Sorry I can't give advice on the body work though. Just something I thought of that might help out.
Good luck with your project.

btw i didnt say i was gonna do it as i described. thats why i asked here before i did anything because i dont know how to do it.
if i did i wouldnt ask.
but thanks for the link im gonna read there too.
i searched for a bit about the body lines but didnt find anything about how to make them sharper, i only found how to keep them from rounding off and keeping them straight.
no the car is in decent shape for the price i paid, the interior is good condition and the body is fairly straight. just needs the paint worked on.
i got it running already and working on the interior.
the paint is a long project so i got time. just gathering information on the best ways to do what i planned for it,
and belive me when i mean the right way i dont skip steps, skipping steps only gets you the shitty look and disapointment. i just never dealt with a full car body work, only small parts here and there.

Loving the idea for your car, and you can bring back those body lines with a high build primer and several coats, that is, if you didn't sand them flat. Just grab some tape and a block.

Nobody can tell you what color that is because it's something you just came up with on your computer. Maybe take the RGB settings or CMYK settings to a paint supply shop and they can help you out or something.

97 del Sol doesn't have any fog light holes

And which sharp edges are you referring to that are getting rounded by your sander? All edges of all the panels are rounded to begin with, even more so when paint is on them.

I am pretty sure he is referring to the air holes as fog light holes based on the pictures posted.
Plastic bumpers are hard to work on honestly when it comes to filling in holes. Hard to glass because you have a lot of movement in the bumper through daily driving, and it's a flexible material. I know some people have probably glassed on plastic, but I would not recommend it. I would trying to find an aftermarket fiberglass front bumper that you might like. You get that and you can do just about anything to it.
Post a picture of the actual car you have right now to we can have a better idea of what you are talking about.

yea they are also jdm or ukdm fog light
i guess i could use an extra hole in the bumper for air
i ve seen people use a paint thinner or acetone to melt abs plastic and fill up the holes to fix it. i was thinking of using a piece of urethane plastic with epoxy or some other plastic glue that stays flexible

If you want the small grille and no auxiliary lights, then just get the '93-'95 bumper and shave the auxiliary lights. No need to destroy an uncommon and expensive '96-'97 bumper.
