crx with b16 trans shifting very sloppy need
well i just bought a crx with a full b16 swap. and b16 lsd trans.
the shifter is very sloppy it has alot of play side to side which i dont mind but the car is very hard to get into gear. and 5th/reverse always grind and are very hard to find. I am always shifting into 3rd instead of 5th for some odd reason. also whenever i shift into 5th it grinds, like a hard grabbing gring not a fast chirping type grind like you see in 3rg gear at high rpm
reverse always grinds unless i shift into 5th then reverse.
an important part was the car was converted to manual from auto and.
some shitty stage 4 clutch with fidanza lightened garbage flywheel. engages and disengages fine. doesnt drag. adjusted the cable. clutch feels very very very light lighter than stock.
ive bought a exedy clutch already for it will replace next week but would like some insight
is the trans bad. seems to me like the sift forks are all bent.
i just want to fix it because its a lsd tranny

Try replacing the shift bushing for the shifter linkage. Also after you install the new clutch mess around with the adjustment on the clutch cable.
check your shift linkage the bushing in side of it are worn out. and check the bitch pin hole and see if that is worn out as well.
the tranny should be fine.
you said you have a lot of side to side play. (thats shift linkage bushings) (not the big rubber bushing...
the little plastic bushing/washers in the head of the linkage or in the shifter.
the tranny should be fine.

yeah i know the bushing have got to be done for or not installed because he gave me brand new bushing for the shifter
A lot of the side to side movement can be from the shaft's universal joint being worn out. If you can weld get one of these and weld it in... http://www.offroadhunting.com/ac425-007330023.html
My shifter was horribly sloppy before I put one in along with energy bushings, now its better than new!

ill prob just grab one from the junkyard
It was totally worth it! for a mil-spec peice that is going to last 2-3 times longer then a honda replacement or any aftermarket replacment part... when something breaks or gets worn out why replace it with the same part, why not upgrade? but if its just not in your budget I guess I understand...

dont have 38 bucks? junkyard linkage joint will proly be worse than what you have already..its also 20 somethin yrs old..my guess is the bushings on the end of the linkage arent even there or effed up..have you looked under the car yourself to find the problem? if the shifter is loose like this first thing id check is all the mounting points under the car. especially if it was converted, who knows whats goin on down there

But yeah i have not looks under the car yet im too scared t lol. i tried but the car is too low and my freinds crx was in the garage getting a new timing belt/headgasket.
got my crx in today and will be checking over everything and pulling the swap out soon.
Change the clutch and small stuff.
ive never felt a sloppy shifter liek this though. ive felt some sloppy shifters and i cannot stand them ive fixed many by changing the shifter bushings. but this seems to be something bigger i thought maybe it was common with the crx/ef chassis when they get swpped because i know last swap i did in a crx we had to shorten the linkages by cutting and rewelding insteead of buying the 150 dollar hasport linkage which was the same thing cut and rewelded
Many people replace the bitch pin with a 10mm bolt to keep the swear jar empty the next time they have to fight it.
More then once I have just installed (and lubed) a new bitch pin, then side to side play feels perfect.

thanks gringo for that picture of the linkages i couldn't figure out the mechanics/parts in my head lol
its off that the accord has cables instead of linkages i guess cables are a bit more reliable
little update. i cant drive the car yet doing some other stuff to the car but i changed the trans fluid
their was over 3 quarts in the trans. it was clear. i drained 4 quarts out of the trans. kind of weird.
but their were very small gold flakes i could see in the fluid. this should indicate sychrowear but is this normal after a fluid change
i filled it up with 2.5 quarts
