Concerns about replacing my alternator... I have no PS or AC... So, to replace my alternator, do I just loosen the two bolts holding the alternator and replace it? And what alternator would be the best bang for buck? I was looking into NAPA for their alternators. Thanks!

 

I just got an Autozone one about a year and a half ago and it's been fine so far. It's easy to replace. Remove the wires, loosen the bolt that it pivots on and remove the belt. Then remove the pivot bolt and remove the alternator. The toughest part is getting it to fit out of there, I think I had to drag it out from the bottom. I think you may have to remove the bracket it's mounted on as well for it to fit out of the car, but I don' remember this for a fact.

I have used Napa and Advance autoparts alternators with no problems.
Replacement is easy as Dgriff said but you do have to remove the bracket to get the alternator out.
Undo top bolt,loosen the pivot bolt(easiest from underneath),disconnect wires and remove belt.Remove not from pivot bolt and push bolt out,move alternator to rear crossmember or somewhere out of the way and undo and remove bracket.Take alt out and replace with new one and reverse what you did job done.

Yep, disconnect the battery and remove the lower mount bracket.

 

Your best bang for your buck is my brand new alt for 50.00. I ordered it and got an obd2 one instead of obd1. Pm me if you want pics this alt has never had a belt on it.

 

update.... found the culprit of it's squeaky madness. found out it wasn't the alternator, but the lower bolt that goes through the alternator and bracket was missing. there was definately a little bit of play in the alternator as well. called the dealership and scored on the bolt. as for the nut, i would have to wait on special order that will come in by tomorrow. problem is, i need it asap! would any 10mm nut work? any specific grade i would need and such?
