Icon3 95 Civic hatch/jdm b16a - CEL codes = VTEC won't engage

Ok first things first...I searched my *** off on every forum and it seems like you guys on here are the most knowledgeable by far. I used the search button and got nothing even close to what im experiencing. I have a 95 civic hatch with jdm b16a and turbo kit. So here I go...it all started about three months ago while I was driving I struck a CEL, now in the past when the light came on I could simply pull over, shut the car off and unplug the ecu(reset it) and everything would go back to perfect. This time was different. I reset the ecu, disconnected the battery tried every other home method to clearing a code and got nothing. The car is not in limp mode cause i can redline and everything but the problem is that vtec wont engage. Ive checked the selenoid, the oil pressure, the voltage, the thermostat, the speed sensor like everything guys and that fact that vtec engaged perfectly fine before the cel proves that is is the problem behind it. Im throwing 2 codes for evap control system, it ended up being the gas cap and a ecu wiring code. I assure you no wires are freyed and or broken coming from the ecu, this all happened cruising down the highway so its so weird whats going on. I got my hands on an obd1 scanner and some honda cartridges and the scanner WILL NOT clear my codes. Ive had mechanics check the car ive tried everything so now im gunna let you guys do your things and try to help me out. please everyone i dont care who you are or how much knowledge you have, if you have an idea please help me because im losing faith in my baby now since she's an embarrassment without vtec, its throwing my whole tune off also. so please help me troubleshoot this and hopefully we can figure this out. if you need any more info or anything just respond and I will provide to the best of my knowledge. Thanks a million guys.

since this is a swap I would go right after the engine wiring harness and start checking all the wiring I bet you will find a splice that has gone bad. It might help if you can tell us any testing that you have done.

The only wire testing ive done is to the vtec wire of the ecu and the wires to the vtec selenoid (power and ground). I know that if i can clear the code I will get vtec back! since it seems everytime i get a cel i lose vtec...weird huh?

what number code is it?
dont know if a clogged screen on the vtec solenoid will throw a code
but u might want to open it up and clean it.

no the screen being clog will not throw a cell but on my friends b16 swap the temp sensor not sure if its a temp sensor. but its a sensor on the side of the head and those two wires might be touching

What about the IAC valve? Give that a check. Vtec depends on a bunch of different things, throttle position, oil pressure, RPM's etc. Try checking the voltage at WOT.

first off, you shouldn't have just reset your ecu when you got a code.. you get a code for a reason, and that reason is YOUR ENGINE HAS A PROBLEM, and the best thing to do is to fix it, not ignore it..

what codes is it throwing? there's a cel light sticky at the top

Hope you didn't cause any real damage by ignoring the CEL you've been throwing. As stated, pull the codes you're getting now.

I did check the codes guys and no i didnt cause any problems by driving with the cel on because the codes arent for mechanical problems. im throwing code 93 and code 11...93 is the evap control system and 11 is the ecu wiring. like i said before i need help with ways to clear the cel. once the cel is cleared vtec WILL engage. It has happened before and as soon as the code got cleared, the car worked pefectly. the problem is that a scanner wont even clear the code so what other options do i have? please help.

no. Its throwing codes because something is wrong. ignoring it is only going to make it worse.

So it sounds like you have no desire to fix the problem causing the cel. All you want to do is clear it make vtec work and stick your head in the sand until it happens again. Well good luck with that rational, hope you get it fixed

No one can help you if you won't listen, take advice, or provide requested information.

First off, there's no codes 11 and 93. Click the CEL sticky at the top, and pull the codes and read them as instructed there. Then post the codes here.

I think hes using the little pocket actron reader crap. I think the codes it will give you are a bit different? I honestly can't remember. Somebody feel free to set that one straight

No I'm sorry guys I just did it a while ago so I got the number wrong. Its throwing code 92 not 93(my bad) and yes in fact there is a code 11, it just doesnt display it in this sites sticky. It flashes one long flash followed by one short flash so that equals 11 and I searched code 11 on google and it says its ecu wiring so im not sure how to go about that one. Like I said i fixed the evap control, but ecu wiring I have no clue. I absolutley am open to an suggestions but I think I am being misinterpreted, I figured out the vtec isnt working because of the cel being on. There in fact is nothing wrong with the whole vtec system( IAC, oil pressure, Sensor, ect). I took a voltage tester to the prongs on the ecu and they all seem to be a complete circut I really dont know what else to do. And I have somebody coming to look at the car so yes, it would be nice to just get the light off and vtec working again until I have more time to completely go through the entire electrical system. Any suggestions? and I wasnt trying to talk like I knew everything, sorry if it seemed like that I was just saying what I already tried

Rather than code 11, you may have code 10 and code 1. Post a video of the flashing CEL with the service connector jumped.

If you receive the OBD-I code 11, then there is something wrong with your Electronic Control Module (ECM).

this is one of the sites that list a code 11 so does anyone have any ideas about what or how to go about that? thanks in advance guys!

Im reading more posts with code 11 and they are generally saying its not a stock code, they says its a "empty code slot" used by some tuning software when the engine overheats. Anyone ever heard of this? my temp gauge is constantly about a 1/16 under halfway point so I dont understand if that is true or not?

Are you just stuck on this VTEC nonsense and code 11? If it is a code 10 and 1 then you need to check your IAT sensor and O2 sensor.

Pardon me for saying but you're being real stubborn and a tad thick-headed. People are trying to help you and you keep arguing contrary to what is being told to you.

I would be wary about trusting any information at this^ link. For example, you would not pull codes 71-74 from any Civic OBD1 ECU. Those codes are specific to an OBD2 ECU.

You can upload a video at YouTube and post the link in your thread.
