Default EF oil leak -back of motor?

As I'm not very familiar with this engine, whats the thing (assuming it's some sort of factory breather box) that the PCV hose leads into? I think the culprit of the oil leak down the back of my motor, I initially thought it was the oilpan, so I changed the gasket and now the back of the oilpan is still covered in new oil, and I can see that oil has been dripping on TOP of the oil filter as well as dripping off the bottom of it, near where it seals at the back so this obviously leads me to believe the oil leak is above the pan if I'm getting oil above the filter.

Is this a common leak area, and if so, any more definitive answer as to what exactly it is that's leaking?

As always, thanks for your advice/opinons.

thats an oil seperator box for the PCv system, I would say it's your oil filter adapter, the piece the oil filter screws on to, it should remove with a few bolts after taking off the sender and filter, the special shaped O ring is a factory item, make sure the bolts get torqued back on evenly, and not over tghtened or the new gasket will leak, this is a common Honda oil leak

Okay, but would the adaptor leak cause oil to get on top of the oil filter? What are the chances it's the sender itself? (had an old tercel that just pissed oil out the sender, replaced it and used thread sealant and all was good)

Just trying to get as educated as possible before I go in there again, thanks man!

The oil pressure sending unit is a common leak point and is located directly above the oil filter. The valve cover gasket and distributor O-ring are also common oil leaks.

What engine is this?

It's a D15 DPFI

The oil pressure sender is the one covered in the rubber shroud?

D15s don't have an oil cooler/heater under the filter, so that won't apply to you.

Yes, the sending unit is the one covered by the rubber shroud. It has a single pin connector.

I'll run and check it now, do they usually need replacing, or just a touch up of thread sealant?

I agree with targa250r. Just unscrew the oil press sending unit put some deflon tap around the threads or some sealent and put it back in see if it stops leaking

Just got the sender out, looks to be in OK shape and there is evidence of thread sealant being on it beforehand, leading me to believe it's possibly blown-through?

that could be it, the filter adapter O ring seal is under full pump pressure, so if it's going it could spray oil in a 360 degree pattern at any point around it.

my oil filter seals directly onto the block, I don't see an adapter plate, keep in mind it's got a D15.

I'm trying to remember, is the oil pressure sender straight up and down or screwed directly into the block, the adapter piece will look like part of the engine, It should be like the A20 one, a lot of them have a very similar design, the adapter piece normally has the oil pressure sender on top and the pressure relief valve built into it.

does yours look like this? with the sender separate and the pressure relief valve built into the block?

Yup, thats exactly what mine looks like.

I just replaced the sender and teflon taped the threads well.

I'll update to see if this cures my oil leak for good, I know for sure the sender was leaking, but time will tell if it was my only leak. May end up having to go to Honda for a real oilpan gasket this time
