Default reman trans acting up

I have a 98 EX auto 4 cyl.
I just installed a reman trans and now when I go from drive to reverse it shifts into gear real hard.
Going from park to reverse it shifts smooth.Neutral to reverse shifts hard.
I have tried for a week to speak to someone at the place I bought it so I figured while I wait I could do some research.

Any trans guys out there can help?

Thanks in advance
Mike T

I'd take it back to where you bought it from?

could be solenoids are going bad which would have nothing to do with the rebuild. how long since the transmission was rebuilt?

98 Accord 4 cyl auto tranny also here @ 162K. I had the tranny rebuilt a few years ago. My Accord was doing the same thing and I had the transmission fluid flushed at a local shop and the hard shift from and to reverse only (the gear would just kick in HARD) stopped.

I also used to get what I guess would be gear slips, loss of acceleration b/w 2nd-3rd gear with only a spike in RPM with no response to the accelerator. This has also diminished but it still happens when the car seems to be cold. I'm trying to find out what this is right now.

Check your motor mounts - especially the torque strut (it looks like this, although not right for your car, in the front of the engine http://www.amazon.com/DEA-50830SM4A8.../dp/B001M5ROK6). Change the fluid. If this works, then change the fluid again.

rebuild shops like to use the cheapest parts they can find... its amazing how many white box china parts go into reman stuff... its a shame they don't use all OEM components.

I have seen several causes for this, first make sure the linear pressure control solenoid is plugged up properly. It has a black and brown connector , make sure they are not swapped. Also be aware that Honda automatics are picky about fluid, I use oem Honda fluid only. Also did you install a new oil cooler when you swapped transmissions? Trash from the original failure trapped in the cooler will sometimes get flushed out with new hot fluid from the new trans and it stops up the internal filter. I would also check codes because an open or shorted pessure switch and a misadjusted mode switch can cause high line pressure.Let me know if i can help in any way.

What have you every seen out of Honda in the area of automatic transmissions to think that OEM parts would be better than even china parts? With other manufacturers, I am sure that you are right, however.

Thanks for the replies.

I replaced trans mount, did not change oil cooler.
I was told by the seller it could be linear pressure switch,$$$$.
It is better after driving it a few 100 miles, just dont go from D to R in high idle or it will shift fast and hard.
Why do they make trans and fuel filters unreplaceable?

Thanks again guys really appreciated,
Mike T
