My poor Accord :(
Hello all! I'm new to the forums but was hoping I could get some feedback.
I have a 1997 Accord EX that I daily drive. I love my car and have had it for 11 years. It was in an accident a few months ago and what I can gather from my friend that looked at it, it suffered a pretty serious crack to the block along with damage to the alternator, and some of the timing belt components.
I really don't want to get rid of this car as the body/interior is still in great shape and would only need the hood replaced.
As for the engine, what kind of options do I have here? Would it be cheaper to just buy a new engine or to have the block worked on? Thanks a bunch!

Then once you have the pic, copy the image code and paste here.
From the sound of it your car sounds totalled.
Post some pics like I said.

How do you crack a block without bending the frame (nearly impossible to fix for the best if DIY'ers) and/or the radiator support (which requires welding to fix)?
I would stay away from this one.

I was involved in the crash. Pretty much rear-ended a lifted pick-up truck at about 20mph. The hitch of the truck pretty much went right over the top of the bumper and smashed through the radiator and demolished the core support and hit the alternator straight on. I saw the crack for myself and it was leaking fluid. We managed to sealed up and the engine runs..but cylinder 1 is missing and compression test is showing 80psi where as 2-3-4 are around 160psi.
The crack is indicated by the red line.

DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUM.
hah. Sorry to make you feel uneasy but that car looks worse than half the accords at the junk yard.
Youre gonna have to do a good amount of welding and it still will probably look terrible because of the frame being bent.
my honest opinion.. either part it out or sell it to the junk yard.
You can also buy a cheap project accord and use yours for parts. That way your old faithful car still lives on in your new one.

her's what mine looked like and I still got rid of it.

OP find another accord they are dime a dozen, after I got rid of the one in the pic I found another with no rust and In much better shape, make sure to remove good parts you may have purchased and take other parts you can sell.

That needs a lot more than just a hood. The radiator support is destroyed, you need to cut yours off and weld a new one on. The left inner fender looks bent, needs to be straightened. New driver side fender. Obviously you need a radiator. Both corner lights. And from what you're saying a new engine.
Do you think its worth probably $4k+ to fix this car?

fix it and run it... 85psi is low, but hey, it's a Honda. They don't just die. I haven't heard of anyone wearing one out, outside of youtube 'blow up engine' flicks with no oil or coolant.
Sell it (for a deal) if you want, and get something new, or plunk a JY engine in there. Just be sure to check for compression and sludge and (pull valve cover and oil pan) before pulling any engines. Your best bet is one that's been hit in the rear.
