Default CRX w/B16A1 4000 idle

Hey all,

Firstly thanks for reading this, i've been searching everywhere and cant find a solution.

The problem:

I changed the battery, starter, alternator, brake booster and re-did the ignition switch (live from switch but dead at starter).

When i start her she idles up at just over 4,000 rpm.

Must be a vacuum leak, a big one? Only problem is i cant find it.

No codes and the only problem is that the trunk light flickers on the dash and the bulb in the trunk burnt out? Perhaps a short, but could this affect the highe idle?

All hoses look good and intact, took off the iacv and cleaned with carb cleaner, no change.

Throttle body is closed and TPS sensor is new and dialed in correctly.

I heard some people say the coolant may be a problem, i havent flushed it yet, but i dont know how that could affect idle so much.

Thanks once again for reading this.

Is this when engine is cold? Could be the FITV valve which controls idle when the engine is cold, rather than the IACV.

you say you changed the booster. is the vacuum hooked up to it at the booster and the source? could be vacuum. i cant imagine anything else causing that high of an idle. did this problem start out of the blue or right after the swap? or just after you changed those things? also did you disconnect any sensors to make room to remove or install something that you forgot to plug in? retrace your steps and see what you missed

Hey Adam,

I have put a new booster on and i can hear / see / feel any leaks. The problem did come out of the blue, well sort of. There was always a rough idle issue since i changed the TPS sensor and presumed it was the o2 sensor as now the tps sensor was running correctly the o2 sensor was throwing it off. Power has always been no problem and the car drives well.

I had a problem with my battery and alternator, so swapped them both out, this is where things get messy. I went to start the car one cold evening and there was nothing other than a burning plastic smell. I narrowed it down to the starter motor and or ignition switch. I tested the switch and it was fine. I pulled the starter and it seemed the solenoid had burnt out.

After I swapped the starter the 12v switch from the ignition was getting power in the car, but in the engine bay, nothing.

I ran a new 10 gauge ignition wire, and while i was in the process noticed that a bolt had sheared off the brake booster, which held on the master cylinder so changed that at the same time.

I then started the car with no problem at all, and the revs went straight up to 4,100. I let her run for a few minutes but i chickened out as it was so loud and cold that i feared i may damage the engine. At that same instance the trunk light came on the dash, started flashing, so i went and opened the trunk, the light bulb turned on and then burnt out. I closed the trunk and the light now continues to flash while she is on. The revs are still up around 4,000.

I think im loosing hair.

Thanks for all your help!

Rhys
