After seeing many threads of requests for alternative gauge mounting options (other than pillar pods) for EG 92-95 Civics, I got to brainstorming and came up with the Vent-Pod which adds dual 2- 1/16" or 52mm gauges to the middle vent that allign with the drivers eye for easy viewing while keeping the vent fully functional.

I tried to design it to blend in with the EGs interior and dash. The prototype is primer gray and has not been painted yet. Please let me know what you think and any suggestions you have before I finalize the design. Thanks!

Looks great. I would think you have a pretty open market on something like that. That vent is about useless anyway. I always keep mine closed.

 

i have been thinking of doing this once i get my car back on the road but permitly closing off the vent and doing it like he does the integra clock pod

 

Thanks! Glad you like it I wanted to keep the vent functional so people could have the option of having it open or closed.

I like the way the Clock-Pod looks with the face plate but I get people saying they would get one but they really like their oem clock. So with the Vent-Pod I wanted the keep all oem features available.

 

I think what would be really trick is to have the vent it's self be spring loaded, and have it pop open with gauges. then close the vent to hide the gauges.

i love the way it looks from outside. my only concern would be the durability of the gauges being blasted with heat all winter. that would be my only concern.
you could always make a vent deflector that allows all the heat to blow out underneath the gauges and not surround them.

back in the day they had the frog eyes...hard to explain it sat atop the dash above the steering wheel and held one gauge on each side of the wheel. dont see them much anymore. thats always an option.

the only reason i think like this is because of jackers. **** in plain site is going to get you jacked. that's just the way it is in this sad, sad, world we live in. They just don't understand the worth of work/labor and the cost you invest to get something.

 

Being a prototype, I am assuming the pod portion will be integrated into the shell part? Like the two cups are part of the shell. That'd probably protect it. Anyone who isn't familiar with Civics wouldn't think anything of it.

If these could be available cheaply, I'd be interested.

We really don't have any good spots for any kind of gauge pods. The A pillar is practical, but easily noticeable. The DIN slot isn't noticeable, but isn't as practical. The gauge cluster itself would be practical, but not so easy. There's one for the 96-00 Civics, but not 92-95. The steering column plastic piece that goes over the ignition would be a good spot, kinda out of sight to others but right in the perfect spot for the driver. The little standalone pods that tape or screw onto things look tacky, they're ok for a race car or temporary use, but nothing permanent. Short of making your own dash, I can only think of going to the Integra dash, but that's not too much better, and that's really obvious if anyone looks in...and kinda expensive.

This isn't bashing or anything. I'm just saying I'm not a fan of what is currently on the market. I'm going to make a pod for on my column, or integrate it into my cluster opening.

with OP and maybe 90% of eg owners, dont use that vent and theres already a pair below it

i was gonna do something like this but use the vent in the dash below where you mounted yours. most vents are useless for me.

should get a pretty good market for that.

 

This is IMO the best option on the market. I don't know about other people, but I am not staring at my speedo, or my tach for that matter, while I am putting my foot in it. I use the sound of the motor to shift and my periferal vision to see the vital gauges. This eliminates the need for that. You can have a good eye on the road and, watch your gauges closely. Awesome craftsmanship as well. I have the EK pod made by Quad-Pod.com, and I can say that it is top notch for sure! All EG owners who have the need for extra gauges could do well with one of these.

Thanks! I designed it to appear oem to anyone passing by thats unfamiliar with the EG. Pretty sure heat won't affect the gauges- There are gauge pods out there that put a gauge directly in the vent slats for Subarus. Worst case just close the vent

Thats why its good to get the gauges off the pillar so its less obvious your car is modded.

The two pods or cups will be epoxied to the shell and the shell will be 3M double sided taped to the vent. Mounting tabs still need to be built on the shell.

Painted the Vent-Pod black to get it closer to looking finished. Pods are still unpainted but will be after I get the gauge angles pinned down.

nice job. me and my bro thought of this idea a few years back when he had his subaru and had the dash pod like this in it.

Do other people think it needs a face to mount the gauges into? Is this because it would look more finished or because heater air wouldn't be going past them?

 

Since you have the mold done and the prototype installed, how hard would it be to start mass producing these? Even in small batches of 10 (if you do it yourself), you could probably make a little bit of cash.

And since you painted it black, it looks awesome on the dash.

If you just covered the vent, and made a face to mout the gauges to I would so buy one gotta hold 3 52mm gauges tho

 

this is somthing I drew up in paint this is what im talking about. it will be a littler bigger than the vent but it will cover it completely so you can then just run your wires right down the vent to where thewy need to go
