Best swap for my daily 98 Civic LX/D15b?
Just need some food for thought.
I have a 98 LX 4 door with a D15B swap, has been converted to OBD1 but is an old tired motor. I want to keep my heat/ac/power steering.
Here are my options.
I have an almost complete LS that needs honed/re-ringed/bearings, might have a good head for it, IM, and I have an OBD1 LS ecu I could use. However I'd have to get clutch/FW/mounts/axles/trans/pumps/timing belt to make this work, maybe a few other things. As much as I'd love a B swap in this car I want to keep all my amenities including PS.
OR
Find a junkyard D16Z6 or shortblock, bearings/rings, get a reman'd head, pumps/timing belt, but already have mounts and AC/PS brackets and pumps that work, already have a transmission, and it would just be a stock rebuild.
I commute 45 mins every day, I know the LS would be reliable and more power but if it's going to be more epensive than the D build it may not be worth it for me.

If you could find a healthy ls I would go with that. I have one with a gsr trans in my ex coupe. More then enough power for daily driving. I still have my P/S even my cruise control works
the main ? is do u want gas milage or power or kinda both because for the z6 to be a sohc motor it pulls pretty good around 4 to 6400 rpms and like said earlier its got some pretty cheap parts available for it
ok guys so i have a ? i have a 1994 civic ex w/h the d16z6 with 263xxx but i can buy a 95 hatch dx with mini me swa and the extra celanoid for stage 3 vtec i was just woderin which is a better motor the z6 or d15b7
You're thread jacking, but to answer your question, the Z6.
Most likely for the gas mileage, the extra power would be nice as I'm used to a B-series but the LS would make it worth more if I ever sell it. I'll figure it out, I'm really more worried about ease of swap now.
I appreciate the info guys.

The GSR motor is pretty nice. The high compression helps it get good gas mileage. I consistantly got over 30mpg and it was nice to drive around.
Or a LS or B20 but some higher compression pistons. It'll let you run better cams to make more power also.

first off.. if you don't want to spend the money to swap to an ls.. why the hell would you buy and re-build a d series?
and what do you mean a tired old motor? does it smoke like a forest fire? why not just leave it alone?
or save us all and find a d series and throw it in your pos's place. any d15/16 will bolt up in some form or another, only variable is reusing your intake manifold or use the new motor's. close hood, the end. this thread seriously lacks tech and brain cells..
don't mean to sound rude, but this isn't a tech question or even really a request for advice. you answered your own questions in your own post. the rest is just the kind of thinking you need to do for yourself while you're on the *******..
