Default ls turbo or ls/vtec turbo

which way do you think is better i have seen both builds done and been told to go both ways. Idk wich way would be better benn told cant rev out enough with just an ls turbo so ls/vtec is better for turboing. wondering if i could get some assistance.

What are your goals, budget, and what is your car going to be primarily used for?

don't count out the b16. that motor can be fun when boosted and doesn't cost much.

Budget and power goals? If you wanna make a lot of power down the road then lsvtec is the way to go. Ls head has pretty shitty flow and money spent on porting it could be better spent on a b16 head.

ive been struggling with this dilemma for a while now as well.. you could always turbo your ls now and if its not enough for you, do the vtec conversion.. you should be able to use the same turbo set-up on your ls and lsvtec with little or no modifications..

I had my da integra LS boosted @ 226k miles, Still running @ 245k miles and it was more than enough for me on a t3/t4 @ 10 psi. It also was very affordable to boost if you peice your own kit together. I went with 450cc DSM injectors to really get everything on a budget. I think boost it since it will give you more power than a vtec head and if after you still want more nobody says you can convert to lsvtec?

if you have extra monies, go for rebuild+ ls vtec + boost, but do it right.

otherwise, ls + rebuild + boost will still yield much power.

both options will give you good power, just depends on how much money you want to drop

ppl above have already asked this many times, so please post an answer

what are your goals for this car and is this a daily driver or a track only car? your answer really determines how we can help you

LS/VTEC gets my vote. a LS Turbo will get there you there too, just think it would be easier to go the vtec route.

How much of a difference is there in going ls vtec turbo instead of ls turbo with a better non vtec head.

you'll need to check the B18B turbo forum. On average, getting a good stock VTEC head is worth more than the money it takes an LS head to be as effective. At least by several hundred dollars or more. Plus more machine time, parts (cams, drivetrain, etc), it can add up.

Some people like the ALL Non-vtec for them, regardless of cost association. You have to look to yourself as to whether or not "being different" with an all LS is worth the trouble vs. going LS/VTEC.

I have an lsvtec turbo and I have destroyed another.

Ls turbo is also fun, but you get more torque from the lsvtec and a higher redline (if you build it properly). If you have the money, invest in a sleeved block if you plan on continuing the hobby. That way you can add to it later.

Make sure if you go rebuild you get the rods strengthened with a shotpeen or buy new rods all together. The LS rods are the weakest point of that motor.

Dont just slap on a vtec head, there are some minor things that need to be done, bearings (acl yellows for me) and vtec conversion kit. do the research. its not hard, you just have to do it right the first time.

I'm doing a full rebuild with a new lower end. I just recently bought a b16a for cheap so I'm torn on what I actually want to do. I have most of what I will need depending on if I decide to go vtec or not. Just wondering if doing the conversion is going to be worth it

An ls/vtec will produce the most torque out of any OEM Honda b series motor combo... it's main weakness is rod bolts, that what prevents most people going over 8,000-8,500 reliably.

a mid compression (10:1-11:1) piston/rod ls/vtec with a good set of cams, springs, retainers, and intake manifold can produce a good amount of torque for the power it produces, torque should be the main focus for any street car.

horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
torque is how far you push the wall.
