hi i am new to this site but thought someone could help me. I have a 97 honda accord lx 4 cyl. not a vtec. it is a mannual trans, my car would just have a click sound when i would try to start her. I took out the starter and had it checked and they said my starter was bad. so I put in a new one and the starter just spun. so I took that starter back and they tested it and said it was testing fine, but gave me another one anyway. I then checked my fly wheel to make sure that i had all the teeth and none was chipped or gone. so i put the new starter in and now that one just spins. I noticed that my battery cables were really corroted under the car and up in the wires, so i changed both the positive and negative. please help me, I do not know what else it could be.

 

The actual ring gear on your flywheel could have broken-free from your flywheel. Take out the starter and try moving the teeth with a screw-driver and see if the flywheel doesn't move but the teeth do.. Make sure the car is in neutral.
