I'm dealing with a friends EP3 that's probably spun a bearing (judging by knocking sound), so which way is more effective, to rebuild the motor with new bearings, rods, and pistons and hone the cylinders to get some performance as well, which would probably cost around 800 for CP pistons and eagle rods, and 200 for bearings...or buy a new block..say a K24 and gain some torque? I am not sure of the cost of a K24 so let me know what you guys think! Thanks!

You can pick up a K24 swap for < $1k. Get the swap. More torque, less headaches, OEM reliability.

I think the A3 heads are the same as the K24A4/8 heads, right?

The K20a2 and K24a2 heads flow the most air, but it wouldn't make sense to use a weak short block with that type of head.

If you buy a K24 swap I would just leave the head on it and not mess with it lol.

 

wrong....the k24a4/8 heads have better flow...the k20a3 head is disigned for tq at low rpm for a 2 leter motor...the k24 heads are designed for tq for a 2.4 leter motor....the way the cams work are the same, but thats about it.

 

Yeah if a bearing is spun I wouldn't waste any money on an A3 engine... (no offense to anyone)

I would look into a swap. Either a k24 or a k20a2/z1 and have some real fun.

Does your friend have kpro? He will if not

 

Not yet, he just picked it up mostly stock, K-Pro later...is it needed for a K24 swap?
