Hello all, new here but looking for a little input. Helped a friend put in a new clutch in his 91 CRX 5sp, all stock. Ended up doing the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, lower ball joints and a new axle at the same time. Tested after we were done and all seemed ok. When he took off just a couple of hundred yards later he said he heard a "pop" and no gears! When in neutral no sounds, when trying gears 1-4 nothing, 5th makes noise. Turned car off, put it in neutral and pushed it and it gives a loud 'thud' or 'clank' about each rotation of the wheels.

Thoughts?

check to see if the axles are seated properly. if ones popped out you wont move. if thats not it then the trans exploded

 

Axles not all the way in. I'd bet $20. I've had it happen more than once on mine and it does feel like busted clutch at first.

 

The axle had not slipped out but instead the new re-manufactured axle had come apart at the wheel. Looks like the joint came apart and then tore the boot off. Got a new axle and all is well.

brand new axle came apart at the wheels? Were you using the right size/model/year......if you have too short an axle, one tight corner and you'll be back in the same spot again
