225 on a civic??????? can it be done
anybody ever try to fit a 225/50/15 bfg kd onto a 5th gen civic?? this is going to be for the front only. the tires would be mounted on 15x7 kosei with a +38 offset. what kind of clearance issues am i going to have. and more importantly, will the increase in grip offset the approx. 6% increase in rolling diameter??

Ah... doh, hmm
Removing fenderlining trim may be necessary due to the increased wheel diameter..and a spacer may still be needed, depending on camber, due to rubbing when turning lock to lock.

Run it like a 4x4 and you'll be fine
Seriously, though, good luck. You will rub, no doubt about that. The 225/50/15 KD is a larger tire than the Kumho V700 225/50/15 and those rubbed on my ITR in the front, even with a better offset than you have (+43). Unless you have serious camber in the front, you'll catch the fenderwell I suspect wioth a +38.
Also, a 7" wide wheel may not be enough for the soft sidewall of the BFG. Per from GRM commented that a 15x7 on his civic rolled over like a b!tch on his car and the 7.5" rim would be better. Now, his car weighs more, but the BFG does have a soft sidewall.
I'm thinking about trying the 225/50 KD in the front of my R too, but I'm going with 8" wheels.

thanks guys. i didn't know that the sidewalls of the bfg's were so soft. i can't run an 8 in sts, but a 7.5 wouldn't be too far out of the question. i'm trying to get a sponsor to help with tire expenses, and if that goes through i'll try it. until then, looks like i'll have to find another way to increase grip at the front.

are you sure you can't run an 8 inch wheel?? I was under the impression that the tire width was limited, not rim width....so in your case, you COULD run an 8 inch wheel with 225's. That would be ideal anyways. I'm hopefully gonna be running a 14x8 with 225's in front and 14x7 in back....just have to find some 14x8s

Any wheels up to 7.5" in width that fit over stock brakes

Let it rub, let it rub, let it rub... I have always run 225s of all diameters including 225/50 14s (current road race set up) and 225/45 15s in hoosiers. Yeah, it rubs on the inside, but the trick is to use stiff enough springs to avoid the fenders! This goes for all setups, as the more rubber you can put on the ground, the better the grip. I even ran the 225s when I ran in stock class on the front on my 95 civic ex. I only ran them on the front due to a necessity to reduce rear grip (used 205 on rear).
The only reason not to use the 225 on the rear without spacer is if you are doing roadcourse/roadrace activities in which the rubbing on the inside on the trailing arm contributes to a power-brake effect (translate very bad oversteer) at high speeds. I have gone to a rear wheel drive offset to avoid this.
Bottom line, I would not be scared of a little tire rub.

I know a guy running 225/45R13 Hoosiers on an '89 CRX. Not sure if any spacers are used, or the offset of his wheels.
And when things rub, the softest material will always lose. Just be careful.

Does STS require the tire to be completely under the fender (as in Stock)? If so, this might be an issue. Street Prepared has no such restriction, explaining the extra wide wheel/tire combos people run.

yea..it can be done. I have 225 hoosier son a set of stock ls integ wheels right now. Just need a spacer on back to clear the trailing arm. You also might to play with the fender lining..my tires made a huge difference.

i was just thinking. i talked to per at topeka after day 1 and he said that the car handled like "poo on a stick". he also told me the car had severe bump steer issues and several other suspension setup related problems. due to the newness of the car and suspension and relatively short development time, combined with the higher weight and different suspension, could the sidewall roll-over be set aside as a concern? granted a 7.5 wheel would be nice (i checked and was right. 8" is for stx only) i kinda want to try it without the investment of new wheels.

225/50zr15 Toyo T1S on 15x7 et39 Advan RG with a 15mm spacer behind the front wheels. For your information. This spacer along with the difference in rotor hat thickness would put front offset at +17mm. And yes, the front fenders are massaged a bit. The rears are just rolled.
