What parts are interchangble with my d16a6?
I have a 91 honda civic si with d16a6 and I was just wondering what transmissions and other components(cylinder heads, engine block, ect,) are interchangable with my motor...I really want to make a "Frankinstien motor" something kinda unique...instead of just dropin a DOHC, B18, or B16 in it...wanna stick with a SOHC motor with v-tec...I have heard a zc head can be put on a d16a6 block...not sure bout that one and also I have heard that a d16y8 head can be put on a D16a6 block...really not sure bout that one...kinda new to this game and really need some good advice on this...Like i said wanna sick to a SOHC motor on this...
You can put a Dx or an Hf tranny on but you wouldnt want to do that unless you want good MPG's. And yes you can make a mini mi "frankinstien" with the right timing belt, cam, dizzy and computer controls.
i think I am goin to do a d16a6 to a d16z6...Any comments, hints, help or questions...thank you for the mini me swap search on google by the way BiG ChOr!Zo...big help you are...
Z6 swap is the way to go. I actually just bought a Z6 head with the solenoid and vtec valve cover today for $59 at the junkyard. I'm planning on just re-using the a6 dizzy and intake manifold. So now all I need is the P28 ECU, OBD1 conversion harness, head studs/bolts, headgasket, timing belt, water pump, and all the other new gaskets. It took me about 30 minutes to take the head completely off at the junkyard. When I did my old Y8 mini-me on my EK it took around 4-5 hours total, including some bullshitting around.
All in all it'll probably run me about $200-300 altogether for the mini-me. But this also depends if I pay crack prices for the ecu or get lucky and score one for $30. I'm considering just making my own ECU conversion harness as well, but knowing my luck I'd get a no-start when doing the swap. It's defintiely a good idea to go ahead and replace the headgasket, timing belt and water pump though. I'm sure I'll end up putting in ARPs at this time as well since I'm wanting to boost later.

You must use the Z6 Distributor with the Z6 head. Unless your not converting to OBD1, but you stated you were. -Later, BR
