Default Setting TDC on cam gear...lines can't be parallel with head surface for some reason.

I'm trying to discover if my timing if off a tooth or not, since the installation of my past cam I moved the belt around a lot. In the haynes book it says that the lines should line up with the head surface...but they dont! it's either too high or too low!!! what gives? Also...just to make sure, with the block set at TDC, the cam gear's TDC shouldn't be facing straight up, like 90 degree from the ground should it? It should be tilted a little to the front of the car since the engine is tilted that way, right?

Dude, that's for the DX. You need to line up the little mark on the bottom of the cam gear with the timing belt cover.

well i made the tdc mark (not the 'up' mark) from the stock cam gear onto my JG cam gear..and lined up the block to tdc along w/ the head, slapped on the belt. now the only problem is my idle...it dies at idle when i first start it up usually.

same thing happened with mine. if i did force them to be parallel to each other the lobes were holding open certain valves, thats not proper TDC!!??so after debating on wether or not i fucked something up,i put everything backtogether timed it and it fired up just fine!

oh and another thing .... my intake cam slots and distributer nipples werent flush with eachother either!

If you have a d16a6, the lines aren't suppossed to line up w/ the head surface. There's a little notch in about the 7 oclock position on the cam gear that lines up with a pointer for tdc on the head.
