Default Grinding in Cold?!

What would cause a tranny (5 speed manual) to grind into gears and also be harder to shift in colder climates until the tranny and motor are warmed up to normal temps?

Oh and also kinda sound like running water when im crusing down the road coming up from the shifter

Its not a honda its my 89 ford ranger!
