i knew about the auto having 5 less but i thought there was a bump in hp's during the 5th gen lude (i.e. 1997 - 190hp auto)

Yup, 1999+ is 200hp, and before that it was 195hp. I hear it is because of some modifications honda made to the headers & exhaust from 1999 on.
