Default ABS light question - does this need attention???

i have a '94 accord EX 5 speed. well my ABS light has been on for a few weeks now, and i haven't had time to see whats wrong with it. when i first turn the car on, the ABS light turns off with all the other "idiot lights". i put it in reverse and it's still ok. brake to shift into first and boom. ABS light comes on and doesn't shut off until i turn the car off. is this something i need to take care of? could it just be a loose sensor? which wheel is the ABS located on? any other thoughts? thanx.

ABS sensors are on all four wheels. Sounds like a faulty sensor though... do you hear any buzzing noises when you first start the car?

edit: Buzzing from the driver's side of the engine bay, that is.

There's a simple way to measure whether or not this problem is the sensors and if it needs to be fixed or not...

Well first you're going to want to measure the distance your car rolls forward before the light comes on... using your wheel and tire combo specifications you can convert that to a radians. You will want to measure the time it takes to set off the ABS ligth as well. Do this 10 to 15 times to be sure you have an ample data set. Now convert your avg radians traveled to a linear distance traveled by the notched ring on the axle (using it diameter of course) that the speed sensor measures off of and divide by time... now you should have your radial velocity. now intigrate that velocity over time. this gives you an answer that has nothing to do with anything.

jfwy calcnerd.

if you hear that noise form the driver's side of the engine bay then it may be your ABS modulator.

first things first though. do you know how to jump the diagnostic plug? you'll want to check what code(s) your ABS unit is storing.

edit: read these threads:

ABS light

edit: the above BS would have been much better if I was not rushed for lunch... sorry to dissapoint

check the fluid in your abs unit, there was a leakage problem with them.

Hey listen to bill, its a simple as checking the fluid. This just happened to me, so i went to autozone, and bought some dot 4 fluid. After some time of letting the fluid settle in while driving, the light turned off.

is that what is in the modulator? do the Modulator and Master Cyclinder operate off of the same fluid? I don't think so... cuz the modulator has its own reservoir. let me know cuz I got the same problem

code 1-3 on the ABS... leaky modulator.

Yes they do, either dot 3 or dot 4 fluid. It's either leaky or needs more fluid.

can't be true. I flushed my system and put in DOT5 fluid... which is bright *** blue. THe fluid in the ABS reservoir is obviously not the DOT5 stuff. What's up with that?
