Will a ls vtec hybrid engine fit inside a 1991 crx?
I have about $4000 to spend on a better engine and i want to get a ls vtec hybrid. I heard from a few of my friends that the engine would fit and i would get somewhere around 200 hp. Does anybody know if they are right? If it were to fit i am going to supercharge or turbocharge it. So if anybody has any info on any complications that might occur or whatever about this engine i would appreciate if you told me before i go buying it.
it will fit, $4000 is close to build a proper LS/ VTEC and swap it in including mounts, axles, and other goodies. start with a GSR block and B16 head, vtec bottom end is a better way to go.
yeah, so i said it would cost close to 4 to get an ls vtec in the car, running. i told him to save his money and get a GSR bottom end with a B16 head so he does not have to go the frankenstein route. hope you balanced and prepped that ls bottom end so it won't blow apart thanks to it's shitty rod to stroke ratio. DUHHHH

still though, wheres the ls in a gsr b16 combo #5? thats my point. and no, i didnt balance or "prep" my motor.
just some arp rod bolts and itr pistons and new rings. 11:1 and direct port to boot. should scatter in a week or two.
was i supposed to run some kind of oil line or what? i dont know how these motor do hickies work.

i say screw the LS/vtec turbo.....go LS turbo! throw in a LS for cheap then get a nice used drag kit or a revhard.
and what is up with this GSR/b16 hybrids?? will this make power like the LS/vtec's??

yes, GSR block with a B16 head is far better than an LS VTEC, you get parts that honda intended to work together, plus the B16 head is the same casting as the type R, just doesn't have the factory head work. i agree on the LS turbo, cool setup! but definitely not LS VTEC turbo, that is a time bomb. those motors do not really have adequate oil usage in the first place, no piston squirters because the motor was not built to see high rpms or high combustion temperatures. (created by turbo, higher compression, higher rpm's) throwing a turbo on an LS VTEC only drops the oil pressure/flow capability, i would not like to see the aftermath.
GSR/B16 Frank is nicer than a 190 hp/145 lb. ft. LS/VTEC but when you compare parts prices the GSR is a lot more expensive... But I guess in the long run you'll pay that anyway because the LS/VTEC will die in 30,000 miles anyway because it's not designed to rev high (as mentioned by WRECKEDHATCH with the piston squiters, etc.)
im in santa rosa......i go to sac to race sometimes at CMI events.....you ever see any POWERLINE cars down there??
i never even thought about the gsr block with a b16 head.....1.8 b16! sounds good! and i know about the LS/vtec turbo.....that would be short lived! on my next project i was going to go LS/vtec or CRvtec but i was going to get the bottom end built for the high revs and such......but i might just go with a GSR block.......i was talking to the bergenholtz crew at the drags at infineon raceway a few weeks ago and i noticed they run a LS block with all GSR internals! pretty crazy huh......and on the gsr blocks that they use they weld up the oil squirters.....but those are fully built motors, and he brings it to 11,500!!

My cup of tea is going to be a fully built CRVTEC, but that's not possible until money is available. The torque is what I'm looking at. The hp will come but I'm trying to get what no honda has, TORQUE.
i just put my mostly built crvtec in my crx last week.
it is really NIIIIIIIIIIICE!
i would recommend it.
i have $5400 in it as of right now.
good luck
