I have a few problems.. any help would be great.
I have a few questions.
1.)I have a 95 Integra and the car jumps hard when shifting from P to R then when it goes into neutral and drive the car jumps hard again. Car shifts fine and sounds queit. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be the engine mounts or transmission mounts? If so how much would they cost? Can I do it by myself?
2.)The steering sucks. Very hard steering. What could be wrong?
3.)Idle problem. When the car gets started and needs to get warmed up, The car idles up and down untill the car gets warm. I have no ideas what this could be. After it flauxates the car sits at about 750 rpms. Shifts fine and no abnormal sounds. Anyone have any ideas for this?
Thanks All,
By the way the car has about 129,000 miles and is an auto tranny.

Hm...check your transmission fluid. In fact, have you ever changed the fluid and filter? If not, you should. If that doesn't help it, you may need tranny work.
Check your power steering fluid. It may just be low. Check your belts, too...they may need replacing. if it's not either of these, you may need a PS pump.
Unstable idle - could be a few things. Coolant temp sensor, threottle position sensor, vacuum leak, idle air control valve. I dunno. I'd check the coolant sensor first since the problem seems to be temperature related. HTH.

OH MY GOD!!!!you are the only person on the face of the EARTH that I have been able to find the same problems with!!!! My self and the previous owner have done extensive research to cure these problems. First, the idle jumping up and down. The only thing I have found to cure this is to get the IDLE CONTROL VALVE replaced. We thought maybe we had a broken vacuum line and tried many other things but that was the only cure. However it DOES NOT fix the high idle. I have driven a 2000 Integra and it did the same high idle thing minus the fluctuation. However, when I put the 2000 Integra into reverse, it did not SLAM like ours do. I have been unsuccessful in curing the high-idle-tranny slam. Mine shifts normally most of the time also. I have been finding lately that the tranny will not shift into 3rd and 4th gear at its normal points but will go away when I restart the car, leading me to beleive its the TCM (transmission control module). PLEASE PLEASE feel free to contact me if you find any more solutions.
I also forgot to mention that I spent a ton of money to have the motor mounts replaced at an ACURA dealership and this did ABSOUTELY NOTHING FOR THE CAR!! Transmission fluid service did nothing as well. I sincerely beleive that this is electronic and not mechanical.[Modified by Steak84SS, 5:28 AM 9/23/2002]
The steering problem could be due to your car being low on power steering fluid. If this is the case, you're leaking fluid somewhere
. Anyways, it doesn't hurt to get it checked.
Does it make a weird whining-like sound when you have it fully locked to either left or right?

I have a 95 ls automatic and I am experiencing the same problems. I live in Arizona, and it doesn't matter if it's 110 degrees outside the car still idles at 1700-1800 rpm's when started for the first time of the day. Then I have to sit there and wait for 3-5 minutes for the rpm's to lower to about 1000-1100 so that the tranny doesn't jerk AS hard. I have noticed that the first couple of shifts are also pretty rough as well... car lurches forward as it shifts. I'm down for pretty much any suggestions right now as this has me pretty pissed off (just bought the car a couple months ago).
Put new tranny fluid in..... it doesnt fluctuate anymore. I thought the idle problem was a IACV but it wasnt. The car still shifts hard when going into reverse but when it goes to neutral or drive it doesnt shift hard anymore. Could that be bad motor mounts?
I still have a power steering problem. I hear a light hissing sound from the power steering pump when I turn the steering wheel. Does anyone think its a defective pump or do I need to bleed out the steering pump? If so, How would I go about doing that?

Could be motor mounts...especially if the car has been driven hard (and what Teg hasn't?
). The tranny may just be getting old. Then tend to shifting hard when they're worn.
As far as hard turning....definitely check your tire pressure. Underinflated tires make turning hard, and will work your PS pump harder (possibly explaining the extra noise). All PS pumps make some noise if you turn the wheel while sitting - that's when they have to provide the most assistance.
I don't know how to change the PS fluid, but if you invest a few dollars in Haynes manual they will have fairly explicit instructions on general maintanence. They're not as thorough as factory, true....but they are more than acceptable for giving a car the once-over. They're cheaper and easier to get hold of, too.

You described the behavior of the tranny on my '94 LS Auto to a T.
My mechanic recommends flushing the tranny fluid w/Honda ATF, but I haven't done it yet.
The other thing is that I've noticed the tranny has started to emit a high-pitched whine in harmony w/the engine revs. Any ideas why the the tranny is whining/squealing during engine revs? Sometimes I have a hard time hearing the engine revs over the tranny.

Even when I drive it its hard to steer. Tires are inflated properly and on my civic if I turn the wheel from side to side while in park, it isnt as hard as when I try to turn it on the teg. How would I even know if the power steering pump is screwed? Someone, Anyone, PLEASE HELP ME
well, how about you let your car get warm...ALL cars idle high when they are cold. that is probably also why it jumps when u put it in gear...because the gear picks it up at whatever...1750 rpms or so, causing it to jump...it's not a problem, just a normal engine.
this is much different. I agree that all cars rev high when cold, but these integras have a VIOLENT slam that you must keep hard pressure on the pedal or the car will move. This is by no means a normal bump or jump.

Not too sure about the first two problems.. But the last problem I've seen fixed.. All this person did was forget about replacing small little things and put in a new throttle body.. I believe it has something to do with the plate (whatever it's called) inside the TB, I can't remember..
