But it still drives past 5k...so it cant be limp mode? No CEL. It just wont rev past 5k when sitting out of gear

 

Is it a stock ecu? Or chipped ecu, sounds like you have what we like to call a 2 step or launch control.

When your driving it, it goes past 5k right??

 

Its a p72 ecu, its in my eg. Just went out again with new plugs and leads didnt change. but when i slowly creep the revs up it goes as high as i want, but for example i slowly went to 6000 revs then i put my foot down harder and it does the same thing as if i went hard from 0rpm. Its as if its on limiter, but when it does it it kind of sounds like vtec.

and yes it drives passes 5krpm when driving

I'm having similar problems but mine sounds just like an ignition cut. Plugs are fresh, wires are good, gas is new, just ordered a new cap and rotor (mine looks worn out and burnt). I'm hoping that solves it.
