Getting hot while driving, cooling at idle
Hey guys i have a sohc 1.6 civic and it seems to be running hot while driving or accelerating, but at idle it doesn't get hot at all. I'm not positive what this could be. I'm hopeing its just a thermostat and not a head gasket. I checked the fan and its working, checked to see if the hoses were squeezing together and it actually doesn't seem like they have much pressure in them at all but thats just me, i don't know exactly how they should feel. Its not smoking from the exaust and its not smoking from the engine. Its not making any of the coolant spray out or anything. Maybe i'm not letting it get hot enough or it would, but i'm not willing to let it get to hot. Hopefully someone has experience with this to help inform me on what it possible could be. Thanks.
if you haven't already Check your coolant level, if the level is fine, how dirty is it? i had a car recently that the cores were clogged and that was the main problem with it, what causes it is poor maintenance witch was my fault.
No i didn't get to check what the coolant looked like or how dirty it was. I just bought it sunday and its been doing it. I checked the coolant level but didnt notice what kind of shape it was in. I will definately check it.
